Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Kevin Brown was in the Mitchell Report, there's the reason. He also just doesn't have the counting stats we associate with HoFers for the most part so it's not surprise he didn't make it in the era he did.

Jack Morris shouldn't have gotten in, but his induction makes it easier for Pettitte so meh.

It's not really a surprise. But it's wrong. You're right on Pettite. Love that man. But I'm not biased and I personally wouldn't have voted him in.

Now with the bar being lowered significantly recently. Pettite should be a lock.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

I remember the outrage about Jim Rice getting in. Now we have guys like Harold Baines and Jack Morris in.

Its almost funny.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Well some of those guys above and below Morris are in but there are some reasons why he's in which the SABR/analytics types really hate as Morris was a guy who pitched with a bulldog mentality. The guy never wanted to be taken out of games and he was (along with Dave Stieb) the pitcher of the '80s. He had some rings, marquee games (including a no-hitter in '84) and had 14 career Opening Day starts. (only 2 behind Tom Seaver) The bravura performance of Game 7 in 1991 was his shining moment. I think if that never happened the support he had from a lot of the old time baseball writers and fans would be nowhere as strong. He also was the first to win 20 games in a season for the Blue Jays.

Morris is one of those guys who had the look and feel of a HOFer even if his numbers at the end of the day left a bit to be desired. Some of that was due to him "pitching to the scoreboard" and his steep and precipitous decline from '93 onward.

If Scherzer were to retire today he would be in the HOF in 5 years.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Hadn't realized how close CC Sabathia is to so many milestones. Watching his numbers crawl across the screen here on MLB-N...he's going to reach 250 wins, 3500 IP, and 3000 Ks in relatively short order. He trails only Randy Johnson and Steve Carlton for K's by a LHP. Seems very HOF-ish to me.

Is Captain Clutch going to pull a Rivera and be unanimous?

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Hot take (potentially) but Tulowitzki deserves HOF consideration. But just like Johan Santana he won't get it and will probably fall off the ballot in his first or second year.
