Athlon is a good read for any sport. I found an ok read with another magazine. The name slips me as I read it at the store and didn't purchase, but I'll edit when I pick it up again.
EDIT: It was Lindy's. And if you appreciate Erin Andrews, there is a very likable picture of her in Athlon's magazine.
EDIT 2: After purchasing Lindy's, it truly is first class as far as individual breakdowns are concerned. Glad I bought both of these.Last edited by TripleCrown9; 02-19-2011, 03:29 PM.Boston Red Sox

i have all 4 here how i rank them 1 Athlon- most bang for u buck plus does the best with stores and team previews rosters as of jan 10 i think 2 Lindy - most team info not for a casual fan rosters as of jan 7 i think 3 USA Today great great mag but only 2 pages per team kills it rosters as of jan 11 i think 4 Sportsing news great pics stories but the early roster date kills it jan 3 and lack of a bottom line Athlon 9.5 Lindy 8 USA Today 7 sporting news 6Comment

Lindy's is garbage.
Taken from another site:
I usually don't pick up preview mags and their usually not all that informative, but I had to hang out at the airport for awhile and needed something to kill time - so I picked up Lindy's Sports Baseball 2011.
I thought it'd be a cool little time killer because they had a couple 'scouts' look at each player on every team and grade out their tools and pitches.
Everything is graded on a 2-8 scale, 5 being average and 8 being outstanding.
Check out what they have to say about Kimbrel; (paraphrased)
- One speed sidearmer
- Occasional flat-running slider

They grade his slider as a 4; a FOUR?! They somehow concluded that his slider isn't even an AVERAGE major-league pitch!! Are they just making that up, or have they never seen him pitch?
Now, on to Nate McLouth;
- Charges the ball aggressively and unloads quickly to enhance good arm strength

Jason Heyward;
They grade hitters on six categories (hit, power, speed, field, range and arm)(remember the scale is 2-8) out of those, which category is Heywards best? If you guessed range - you are correct. They give him a 5 for hitting - average. BTW they also give McCann a 5, just another average hitter.
Tommy Hanson;
This is the worst one yet - they give Hanson ONE above average, but not plus, ML pitch (fastball), one average pitch (slider) and two below average pitches (curve, change).
It's embarrassing that "baseball experts" can put together drivel like this and make money doing it. McLouth "strong arm"? Kimbrel "below-average" slider? Who the **** have these guys been watching? What a joke.
.....honestly, Baseball Prospectus is the best book/magazine/whatever. It's 12 bucks on Amazon right now.Comment

The Internet. lol
In this day and age its outdated badly.
But they are fun to thumb through.
I used to LOVE Who's Who as a kid.
I saw one on the newsstands last year and it looked EXACTLY the same.
So cool.
Also saw a Baseball Digest at B&N, but they made it full size.
I loved the tvi guide size as a kid.Comment
