    AL MVP Race

This guy is having a year that is straight up, vintage Ricky Henderson in his prime.

87 runs scored(3rd in league), 155 hits(4th), 78 rbis from the lead off spot, 22 home runs, and .884 OPS.

Dude has to seriously be in the conversation, no?

3rd in the AL in WAR, behind Bautista and Pedroia.

I'd say he definitely belongs in the conversation.

      Re: Jacoby Ellsbury: AL MVP?

He's in the conversation, but I think he's the third ranked Red Sox member in most people's mind's for this seasons MVP race based on what I've seen, behind Gonzalez and Pedroia (who's fancy stats are apparently pretty good).

Maybe in the convo, but I feel like it's Granderson's to lose right now.

            1. Granderson - Leading in RBI, gonna hit 40 HR, 109 runs
            2. Gonzalez - Hitting .348, been the best player for them.
            3. Cabrera - Putting up great numbers again for a 1st place team
            4. Ellsbury - Behind Gonzalez

                Re: Jacoby Ellsbury: AL MVP?

I thought it was funny that ESPN listed Bautista, Gonzalez, Ellsbury, and Pedrioia as the top 4 candidates last week. There are so many people just as deserving, and a lot more deserving, than Pedroia and Ellsbury. They just play in Boston so they are just automatically better candidates.

No chance for Bautista though. He hit 50 last year and finished third. And this year, people like Granderson are right behind him. He's that that far and beyond like he was last season.

I don't care how many homers he hit last year, Bautista has been MUCH better this year. His OBP and SLG are out of this world this year.

Yes but his OBP isn't going to make the writers go crazy and vote for him. He won't win anything until the Blue Jays do.

Sad but true in some respects HOWEVER....

Bautista has had two slumps this year yet he still leads the league in HR, OBP and SLG. That's pretty damn impressive. You add in the fact that he's the unquestioned leader in the Jays clubhouse and has made some web gems in the field (both at RF and 3B) and you got yourselves the makings of a top flight MVP candidate.

Unfortunately I think it's gonna go to one of the NYY or BOS guys.

Or they're both really ****ing good and you don't see it for some reason.

If the Blue Jays were anywhere near close to contention he might be the best candidate. But as long as there are guys on first place teams like Granderson, Cabrera, Gonzalez, etc. then I just don't see him gaining enough steam to overtake them.

I didn't say that. But they are better candidates than Cabrera? Not even close. Even Cano. Heck, at the time they said it, Jhonny Peralta had better numbers than both of them, in every category except steals. I said there was much better candidates that weren't even mentioned by the anchors. But you just have to say something.

Him hitting 50 last season was a point at how he came out of nowhere and was the talk of the league last season, putting up ridiculous power numbers that nobody else came close to. And he still finished third with all the hype he had. He's not going to win the award on a non playoff team, even if his numbers are superior to everybody else. Voters showed that last season when Hamilton won the award with inferior numbers to Cabrera and didn't play a game in the final month of the season.

You are just the person that has to comment on everything. And make something out of nothing. I said there was better candidates (which is true) and you have to take that and turn it into "MAYBE THEY ARE REALLY GOOD." Like everything has to be some bold statement. Let it go.

It's probably between Granderson, Bautista and one of the Sox guys. Although in my mind, Ben Zobrist should be in the conversation. His 6.1 WAR ranks 4th in the AL...

I just hope Michael Young gets a vote or two. He's obviously not going to win it, but some recognition for him would be great after what he went through in the offseason.
