More or less, yes, a punishment I suppose. I'm pretty much of the opinion that, ultimately, anyone whose on-field performance was Hall worthy should get in. But I wouldn't put anyone I suspected of PED use in on the first ballot.

Once Bonds and Clemens get in, players like Palmeiro, Sosa, and McGwire should get in also. It's too difficult to attempt to differentiate between all of the players eligible from the steroid era and to what levels their use of steroids affected their careers.

But I have no problem treating their candidacy different than that of a player such as Maddux.

Re: 2013 Hall of Fame Ballot Discussion

There should be a rule in the HOF like if nobody meets the required percentage that year, whoever has the most percentage of votes, gets in.

Sucks how a guy like Biggio,Morris don't get in the HOF this year.

And a guy like Julio Franco, Kenny Lofton aren't gonna be in future HOF ballots. Both guys who were like .001-.002 away from hitting a career average of .300, not gonna be on future ballots.

I'm sure you already know this, but in case anyone still has misconceptions about Cooperstown, the Hall of Fame and Museum is about 90% museum, and when I was there in 2008, there were displays/memorabilia featuring Jackson, Rose, Bonds, McGwire, and many others, moreso than dozens of players who actually have Hall of Fame plaques.

Wonder how Schilling feels now, after he figured he was goin' to ride the backlash against Clemens, Bonds, Sosa et al. into the Hall.

btw I love the Hall of famers that are saying they wouldn't go to the HOF ceremony if a cheater was elected. Um isn't Gaylord Perry technically a cheater? Wonder what they would say to that

Albert Belle is already off the ballot. I think they need to stick with 75% as an entry number but they need to expand the voting base.

Re: 2013 Hall of Fame Ballot Discussion

I love baseball, I truly do. It's my favorite sport. But the Hall of Fame process they use absolutely enfuriates me. Sure keep out Bonds and Clemens. But what the hell did Biggio, Piazza, and Schilling do?
