If there is something that Judge has done, even during his struggling stretch, has been walking at a high rate:

Actually they've been playing a lot better over the last ten games or so. Not so coincidentally this is happening just as Josh Donaldson has returned with a vengeance. It'll be interesting to see how the Jays play against the Cubbies. Unfortunately over this 3 game series the Jays have had very little history against the Cubs starters. You know as well as I do the Jays M.O. is "we can't hit for crap against guys we hardly know". The one guy they have a lot of history with is Jon Lackey who I believe will start one of these games.

No reason to think someone won't get hot to end year, but right now, 83 wins is the projected total for 2nd WC. So Jays would need to go at least 25-16 to even have a shot. Realistically, 85-87 wins seems like mark for 2nd WC. So at least .600 baseball to have shot at WC, and at least .650 baseball to likely get the WC. Would be nice if they actually did get the WC so the season won't be a complete waste. Unlike in other sports where you at least have a consolation prize in the form of a better draft pick where the higher pick actually gives you better chance at better player.

Anyway, Judge had more WAR in the first half than Dunn did in his best season. I'd say we're past Dunn as a ceiling. Even now, he's still drawing walks. That's not his issue. He's 3rd in BB% and 2nd in BBs in the second half. He's dealing with pitchers pitching him in ways to stretch his already huge strike zone and he hasn't adjusted yet. He's getting less good pitches to hit and having trouble laying off bad ones.

Guess I was wrong. I could've sworn Dunn had horrible plate discipline. But my overall point was that he is going to be one of those guys who strikes out 150 times per year, not hit for a high avg but will hit bombs for you.

You think that's crazy? Back in 2011, Chicago went to Fenway Park for the first time in a while. Let's just say the last time it happened, we were still in the middle of World War: First Edition.

Re: 8/14 - 8/27 Game Discussion Thread

Interesting note that nobody will care about.

I decided, after thinking of Javy Lopez, to look up his stats on Fangraphs. I see and remember his monster 2003 year and immediately remember Gary Sheffield was on that team. I see Sheff's stats and see that he never struck out > 100 times. With how hard he swung, that just surprised me...it's amazing to see the differences between this generation's hitters and the past generation.
