Re: MLB Lockout

As of right now, the minor leagues are a go and I don't see that changing but that doesn't mean MLB players can just hop down and play for those teams.

That's the thing here, how does eligibility get determined in these situations. There are some guys who are on the borderline between AAA and MLB, but if there's no MLB in April, could they play in AAA?

And since nobody is technically on rosters right now, how do you determine who is eligible without going through waivers/using a player option?

Right now that discussion is pointless since a deal could be made in the next few days or weeks, or even a month from now, but it is an interesting scenario we could be faced with in just over a month.

It would be fun if we do see some stacked AAA teams if theres no MLB for a while. Put those games on TV instead.

Re: MLB Lockout

Players who are on the 40 man roster are part of the MLBPA and are expected to promote solidarity with the union and not play for MLB affiliated minor league teams.

Minor leaguers need their own union.

Re: MLB Lockout

The meeting is over after roughly an hour.

Despite Manfred previously feeling very good about his side's proposal, there was no deal struck.

I wouldn't expect any agreement until there's an update to arbitration years and revenue sharing. Arbitration years, like service time manipulation, has been a point of contention between the two sides for years leading up to this lockout.

Re: MLB Lockout

"MLB argues for minor leaguers to stay unpaid in spring training: "It is the players that obtain the greater benefit from the training opportunities that they are afforded than the clubs, who actually just incur the cost of having to provide that training.”
