That management group in Philadelphia really dropped the ball on those three, but they felt they were in 'win now' mode, so the patience wasn't there to develop 3 end of the bench guys.

Yeah, for the most part, Philly has done a good job of identifying young talent at the end of the bench, they just don't retain those guys. At that time, I felt that Bassey was the better long term backup center option over Paul Reed. Reed was just "further along" and more of a fan favorite. For a team like Philly, unless it's a McCain situation where they are an immediate impact, they aren't really going to develop/retain those upside players
