Regarding Joe Alexander, I would love to see him in it. He was throwing it down in those online videos last year. Meanwhile, Rudy Fernandez did nothing and still got voted in.
Rudy was actually pretty good, but I'm saying, people who you don't think will be good can actually throw it down. I don't think we need a LeBron James et.al. contest, but I also don't like the idea of amateurs.

Only reason Rudy came in last is because the amount of attempts his first dunk. He was without Sergio...And some big brick named Gasol was passing it up.
And I say let the amateurs dunk with the pros. It will be more exciting for the fans. Maybe not a smart business move, but it will add to the entertainment value, for sure.
That's part of the point. They don't want to do it anymore and with the NBA adding outside non pro people into it they definantly won't do it. LeBron was talking like he was going to recruit other stars to get in it with him but this move probably will cancel out LeBron and anybody else. It will probably be Joe Alexander and a couple of other no names that won't bring in any extra viewers.
Well they weren't going to do it anyway so who cares at least there will be entertaining dunks

Let me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)
But it is called the NBA dunk contest not let's bring in some guys off the street and let them in it too. It's a pretty stupid idea and will take away from the event. I mean they might as well bring in some guys off the street and let them join in the 3 point contest as well since there are guys out there that can shoot wide open shots off a ball rack. Singling out a specfic part of your All Star weekend for your million dollar players to be shown up is never a good idea.
I would much rather see them give some young guys a shot and see what they can do than bring in some guys off the street that you will never see again after it is over.

Yeah I see your point. They may as well let NBDL players/ABA players try too. It would just be weird.
I dunno I really don't have a feeling one way or the other.

That would be a better idea and at least those guys from the D-League would have an NBA connection and could possibly play in the league. It could also bring some exposure for the D-League. That could possibly benefit the NBA. But bringing in some guys who will never play in the league off the street to show up NBA players is a very bad idea and does nothing for the NBA.
Man the way the Dunk Contest has looked the past few years IMO, I wouldn't be upset at all if they got rid of it altogether. Already know that isn't going to happen but that's just my thought on how the Contest been lately.

Yeah, but every league virtually has their own dunk contest anyway. I think it should just be NBA players. Plain and simple. This whole idea of letting players off the street is a complete joke to me.
And professapackman... hell nah... I LOVE watching the dunk contest! I always tune in, even the year after Nasty Nate attempted 1,370-something dunks. Although, if they add this "players of the streets" element to it, then I will stop watching.
This is an NBA Dunk Contest, so why are amateurs gonna be in it?
I don't like this idea at all. The aim for this contest is not to find the best dunker in the world, but the most stylistic dunker in the NBA.

They let old timers and WNBA players participate in the 3 on 3 thing they do, so why not let other specialists in? It's the only chance we get to see NBA players compete outside of the league besides FIBA and the Rucker.

Yes but the NBA and WNBA are tied together and the old player actually played for that team. So they all have a NBA connection. That is completely different than bringing in some nobodies off of the street. There is no chance of NBA players being shown up by some nobody from the street in the team ball event. The slam dunk contest is the main event of Saturday night. It is a stupid idea to bring in non NBA people to compete in your main event and take a chance of showing up your million dollar players.

Oh believe me we are on the same page. I completely hate this idea and have been saying so from the start. This is one of the worst ideas they could come up with. Only thing I can think of that is worse was that dumb *** dunk wheel.
I disagree. No one cares about a guy who wins all the time, and the NBA gets more interesting if Fontanette comes in and does a backflip through the hoop. Then next year, people will tune in to see if the NBA guys bounce back. Controversy and competition always bring in viewers. Hell, I wouldn't mind if they had an exhibition against streetballers during the preseason, the way they did with Macabe Tel Aviv.
People go a little far in assuming that these are all dudes just going wild in the playground. A lot of these guys either played in decent programs(D-1 schools, NBDL and overseas teams), or grew up playing with that level of talent. From a talent perspective, they are more associated with the NBA than WNBA players are.
I'd rather see the world's great dunkers than watch a 50 year old Magic squeeze himself into a XXXL jersey and brick wide open 15 footers.
