    The 2010-2011 NBA Season

    NBA CHAMPIONS

    Dallas Mavericks

    FINALS MVP

    Dirk Nowitzki

    Season MVP

    Derrick Rose

With the season coming to an end, and a lockout looming, I figured we could take a minute and reflect about the year in basketball.

Helluva' season don't you think? Congratulations again to the Dallas Mavericks, an amazing playoff run that will definitely be remembered by all of those comeback heroics.

Your favorite memories of the season? Biggest surprise? Biggest letdown? Let's chop it up, shall we?

Proud of my Nuggets' performance after the Melo trade. George Karl did a great job to lead us to another 50 win season but I thought we could have pushed the first round series VS Thunder to game 7 or cause an upset.

Best moment of the season for me: Arron Afflalo's game winner against Dallas who was on a big winning streak at the time.

Biggest Surprise: Blake Griffin. I was surprised with the incredible numbers he was putting up each night for a rookie that missed the whole previous season because of injury.

And again congrats to the Dallas Mavericks for winning the title.

It's gonna be a loooong offseason.......

Your favorite memories of the season:

        1. Dirk and the Mavs getting their first rings.

        2. John Wall showing out during the Rookie/Sophomore game.

        3. Durant going off against Denver in game 5.

        Biggest surprise?

        1. Dirk and the Mavs getting their first ring.

        2. Dallas sweeping the Lakers.

        3. LeBron disappearing in the finals.

        Biggest letdown?

        1. Rose winning the MVP. Thought it was a joke when he was in contention, and I thought it was a joke when he won it.

        2. LeBron going to Miami.

Best of the season: Dallas beating the 3 Pricks from Miami and allowing me to continue using the "QUEEN JAMES" name for another season, as he is not a king and never has been, more like a court jester if anything but I'll give him respect and Queen him.

Worst of the season: My Lakers inexplicable playing the worst basketball I've ever seen them play in the playoffs in a long time. Losing is one thing, but getting swept? Embarrassing, but we did run into a buzz saw. Dallas played their best basketball of the playoffs in the Lakers series.

              Re: The 2010-2011 NBA Season

              Surprises

              - Blake Griffin. I expected him to be good but I didn't expect the Dunking Apocalypse to be unleased by him.

              - Carmelo going to the Knicks. Not entirely surprising, but still that it actually happened was a pretty big surprise.

              - ACTUALLY, Deron Williams to the Nets was a bigger surprise, because that seemingly happened in a 24 hour window out of nowhere. Can't help but wonder what the Jazz could have gotten if they openly shopped him a bit more, but we'll see. That franchise is going to be in trouble for a while, methinks.

              - Lakers getting swept.

              - Grizzlies playoff run, WITHOUT Rudy Gay.

              - The Clippers trading Baron with their first, only to watch that first turn into the #1 overall pick. Only the Clippers.

              Letdowns

              - Lakers getting swept (Oh look it's in two places). I knew they weren't playing championship ball, but I didn't expect the broom to be brought out. Better luck next year, fellas.

              - Knicks with Melo. Yeah, they got the Melo-Man, but what on Earth can this organization do to round out that roster?

              - Heat. Yeah, they hit the Finals, which is a triumph in it's own right with a group that was pieced together in one Summer, but come on. All of the quirky things that were said throughout the season, the way Lebron went out of the finals with a wimper, Coughgate, all of it. As much as I would love to enjoy watching these three play together, and believe me there were beautiful stretches of Bron/Wade/Bosh, it's just hard to root for Bron/Wade for me on a personal level.

                Re: The 2010-2011 NBA Season

Phoenix had a miserable offseason. Lost Amare, Barbosa, and the unsung hero Lou Amundson while adding a horrible contract in Hakim Warrick. Childress was a great pickup though.

A terrible season, including the lowest of lows with trading Goran Dragic AND a first round pick to Houston for Aaron Brooks, who's a cancer, played terribly, and will probably be gone in the offseason anyway. Oh, and Vince Carter shooting us out of games time and time again, and playing terrible D, and loafing, and just being damn Vince Carter. And Robin Lopez regressing massively. And Channing Frye and Steve Nash going down with injuries in mid-March just as we were knocking on the doorstep of a playoff spot. Yep. Figures.

At least we got The Gortat, and got rid of Turkoglu's contract.

The trading deadline was pretty exciting, sans the horrible Dragic trade above.

It was great seeing San Antonio fail, LA get swept the **** out and their fans "silenced", Dallas winning the title and Dirk/Marion/Cuban/Carlisle/etc getting a much deserved ring, and Miami's failure, though.

My "surprise team" picks were pretty nice. Clippers were exciting, Knicks back in the thick of things, the Bulls went very far after sneaking by under the shadow of Orlando, Miami and Boston. Felt nice to not truly hate a team in the WCF for once.

Other than that, I can't remember much else. Used this season as a lockout countdown, to be quite honest.

                    For the Bulls,

there were a lot of positive things that happened. finishing with the best record, having the mvp, and the coy, along with noah making all defensive second team and then of course reaching the confrence finals.

the negatives were Boozer playing poorly (I'm hoping the looooong off season, recovering from injuries, and continuing to learn to play with Noah will have boozer returning with a consistent 18-9 every game), and then losing in the playoffs.

I'd give the NBA season, and Bulls' season both A's.

                        Favorite moments of this year:

Basically the whole Bulls season. Given we were riddled with injuries for the majority of it. My overall favorite part was watching Rose evolve and take over games and really show is improvement and what he had been working on.

Moments that come to mind are the shot at the buzzer to force OT against Houston, breaking Tyreke's leg on a crossover lol dropping 40 on the Spurs when they were hot. Basically any time the Bulls needed a basket, he went and got it. Can't wait to see the jump he makes next season.

Obviously the highlight, was Rose being awarded the MVP. Played great all year, carried a injury ridden team to the best record in the East. Only player in Top 10 in both points and assists and played clutch for the Bulls in the playoffs until the Finals where their weaknesses were exposed. I'm very optomistic about next year, that is if they do play.

                        Letdowns:

Obviously the Bulls being eliminated, and being beat the way they were with some questionable officiating and blowing a couple late game leads, but I have to be pleased with what they accomplished and where they got to with a glaring weakness.

Carlos Boozer confirming my thoughts before the season that he was a waste of money. Was hoping he would prove me wrong, but he didn't. Would of rather just had Gibson start and spend that money elsewhere.

Noah being injured was also a letdown. Was well on his way to an all-star type season. Unfortunatley, injuries ruined what could of been a breakout season.

Bulls definitely had a great season and have alot to look forward to (especially if they can fix that pesky SG issue). Hopefully they'll be back and better than ever to keep the East competitive. The Celtics aren't getting any younger, and the Magic aren't getting any better. Hard to see anything besides a Bulls/Heat ECF again.

If the Bulls can get a scoring SG, with their youth and depth, I see the Bulls being the "dynasty" of the East and not the Heat.

Maybe I'm being biased though lol
