So as the thread says, how good is Kevin durant really? And more importantly, how good will this kid be throughout his career. Is he the next Michael Jordan that everyone tried to crown lebron and kobe with? Or will he just follow the tracks of a lebron or a wade and while a great reg season player and stat stuffer, can he really take his current club the thunder to multiple championships like MJ did and be successful in winning the rings that goes along with being talked about as the greatest? Now I myself am a cavs fan and I watched lebron play here for years, before the stab in the back that took place on national tv, just over a year ago. Now I will say that lebron was and is probably the closet thing to ever matching Jordan talent wise, but we all know he still doesn't have the rings to back it up. But with a young and very talented thunder team and the amazingly talented durant leading them along, my question is again, when its all said and done will this very talented kid find away to get it done in his career and maybe, just maybe be the next player we talk about in the future on how he dominated the nba just as we have been talking this way about Jordan for the last 15 plus year? Is he that good? My answer? There's a very strong possibility! Feel free to pitch in

He'll be one of if not the top scorer for years to come, he's a good rebounder, but I think his defense is just really bad. He may have a good defensive game sprinkled here n there but if he wants to win in the playoffs he's going to have to step up and take responsibility on the other side of the court. -

Agree that his defensive game is a little lacking, but at the same time lebron, kobe, wade and somewhat even Jordan weren't the best defenders til a little later in thier careers, it still amazes me he's only 23 years old(or 22) I'm not exactly sure. But anyways I think he will definitely develope as a better defender as he goes, like I said he still has so much time and won't hit his prime for another say for years, even tho he's playing like he's in it right now! He'll be one of if not the top scorer for years to come, he's a good rebounder, but I think his defense is just really bad. He's my fav player, a great scorer, he needs to improve his defensive game. He is a great rebounder for his position. I think he might only win 1 or 2 titles during his careerChicago Bulls 1996
Dallas Mavericks 2011
Boston Celtics 1986
2001 LakersComment

He has a really good chance to leaf the league in scoring the most times in history. Hell he had a chance to do what Bob Petit did and average over 20 for his career.
Someone compared him to George Gervin and until he shows a consistent effort on the defensive end that'll stick and he'll be just as one dimensional. He had the physical told to be an above average e player (freakish wingspan, good foot speed, basketball I.Q.) It's just a matter of applying himself.
He could stand to put on about 10 lbs of muscle I, I think Durant himself said it's hard for him to gain weight but if he can he'd be all set as defenders have an ready time either knocking him out of position or just preventing him from getting to the spot he wanted to go too.
Lastly he should work on his footwork and post arsenal I watched him getting into the low post against Denver defenders and seem uncomfortable but hit good fadeaway post shots. If he can work on that he'll be a great offensive player.
So tl; dr version.
1. Has capability to be one of greatest scorers every.
2. Needs top improve defensive side of ball
3. Could stands to gain some right to prevent being out muscled.
4. Work on footwork and post game as well as developing a go to (fadeaway seems money)Comment

I love his work ethic. Hardwork beats talent if talent doesn't work hard. You guys should watch Kevin Durants 35th on youtube it is very intrestingComment

As a scorer he's about as good az you can hope for. He's on Melo, Dirk, and Kobe level. As many already pointed out his defense is his biggest concern. Concerned that he shrunk in the playoffs and let Westbrook shoot them out of that Series versus the Mavs. If he's going to reach his full potential he needs to demand the ball at key times. You looking at the Chair MAN!

Durant is plenty good already. 6'10 with a guard-like handle, endless range, and creative finishes. His defensive awareness should improve and he could get stronger. Its crucial though, that he begins to use weak-side screens to locate his shots. He was way too predictable in where he was receiving the ball.
He is already better than Gervin because he can actually shoot from the perimeter. It also seems like Durant is truly willing to play five man basketball, which Gervin never cared for.Comment

I'm confused. A lot of players averaged 20+ for their career. I think you left out something...Comment

Every single season they're in the league. Jordan came close his least season he averaged exactly 20 ppg. Petit averaged more then 20 every season he played in.Comment
