Wow lol.. They really think they can find a 1 year replacement to immediately win them a title? This should have happened a couple years ago if that was the move they wanted to make.. This doesn't make any sense to me unless they know for certain Durant isn't going anywhere.
'Bout damn time, Presti! Now, they need to find a coach that can help Russell play more under control, that can work with Adams/Ibaka/Kanter - is he under contract for next year (?) - developing one of them into a third star, build an offense around better ball movement and way less isolation while praying that Ibaka and Durant will be 100% healthy.
A lot rides on Durant ' s healthy, though. And if he isn't at least 85 - 90% of the player he has been in the past then nothing else will matter. A better coach could possibly rectify some of that loss in production not enough for them to win a championship.
I dont think they have to win a title, but they have to at least show that there gonna be a threat to win one. Meaning a finals appearance or at least a trip to the wcf that goes 7 games and goes down the very last shot in game 7. cuz tbh under scott brooks, the thunder werent a true contender to me. At least not with the way the west is currently constructed, maybe in 2012 or 13 they were, but they werent the last couple of seasons, imo of course.

So who are the proven alternatives out there that would be a fit for this team?
Alvin Gentry or Mike Malone, I guess.
Sloan isn't walking through that door now that he's back in Utah helping them out. No one should touch D'Antoni, Woodson or McMillan.
Mark Jackson is probably not right for that team. He would be right if it was only Westbrook. I don't see Holberg coaching Oklahoma City.
But Gentry is an assistant on the Warriors. There will be teams that look to him after the credit the staff has received in helping Kerr turn that team into legit title contenders. And Mike Malone should have never been replaced in Sacramento.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

lol well obviously thats not what presti was telling brooks, or is telling future coaches. Im just making the point, that for any future coach to make a difference before durant hits fa, these are in and around the criteria they'd have to meet. Basically im saying is they have to prove that they can sniff a championship at least in year one, to make a brooks firing worth it.
