    Re: New logo NBA

Part of what makes the NBA logo so great is the fact that unless you know it's Jerry West you wouldn't think "hey that's Jerry West" it could be anybody. I'm not saying never change it just because "yay tradition!", but I also realize there isn't a reason to change it as well.. So until there is a good idea/reason I think it should stay put. Just my opinion. Picking Kobe immediately after his death is the definition of a knee-jerk reaction, like I mentioned I don't see the sudden insistence to change it to him now, he wasn't even one of the previous options before when this was being talked about...

Either way if they go this route, I hope it's something simple like him dribbling for the same reasons I like the current logo.. The suggestions of the Kareem sky hook, Jordan logo, LeBron signature dunk that were making the rounds before were all equally awful choices because they didn't represent the league as a whole but rather just those players in particular. I don't want to see the NBA go that route with some awful cheesy Kobe logo just because he passed, to me that just makes this whole situation worse. It's like "hey not only did Kobe pass but to honor him we are going to create the worst logo in pro sports".. I don't want to see that happen, just my opinion.

It's a knee-jerk reaction saying it should be changed to Kobe. I'm not talking about changing it in general.

Hardly considering Jerry West and Kobe have ties...Jerry West publicly made it known that it pretty much annoys him with the attention lol.

Not to mention that majority of the legends are still alive or lived to see old age...Kobe died at 41 so yes it’s warranted.

This is not on par with a random MVP Chant...

I'd settle for renaming a trophy for him. What about regular season MVP award? Its already named for the first nba president, but I wouldn't mind that being renamed.

Trophy idea isn’t bad, but I guess I’m just in the minority of not understanding why something needs to be named after him.

Speaking for myself, I'm trying to be accommodating to fans so they back off from radical suggestions like the logo change or league wide retirement of his numbers.

Plus I do like when trophies have names: Heisman, Lombardi, Cy Young, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Stanley, Hart and on and on. I sincerely think is kind of cool.

Yes, especially in a league where other players (Reggie Lewis, Bobby Phillis, Malik Sealy & Len Bias) died before or during their NBA career.

The league and teams can find other ways to honor his legacy.

Like OJ said, you can't tell at first glance the logo represents Jerry West. It just looks symbolic of "any player" driving to the basket.
