I think this was the guy who used to pay ball boys at Chicago Stadium to bring him popcorn and hot dogs to eat on the bench because of his drug use. He did turn his life around and was recently helping kids. He had tons of talent but all the abuse took its toll on his heart. Rip

This is really too bad, he's another on a long list of super talented players from the 1970's and 1980's who ruined their careers with the crazy drug madness. It's a shame, imagine how great guys like Dailey, Micheal Ray Richardson, Marvin Barnes, Spencer Haywood, and Roy Tarpley could've all been. Dailey was a pretty good player from what I've seen, he also has the distinction of almost single handedly getting USF men's basketball program shut down for a couple years.

I'm glad he turned his life around and was helping people though, far too often these guys never manage to pull themselves out of the abyss.

This guy's college coach was also mine (Pete Barry). After everything went down with the USF basketball program surrounding Daley they killed the program and sent Barry packing. Another sad story of a guy who had talent and didn't realize it until too late.

That was typical of early 80's basketball, before drug testing. There would be multiple guys who had major talent, but never panned out because they were stoned all the time or geeked out on coke free basing all night , then trying to play. Some would always end up in some type of trouble with the law. Many of those guys ended up homeless or dead having wasted all their money and their minds. John Lucas was always fired up, but he managed to turn his life around and help others. As good as he was, most fans had forgotten about Q. I can remember women picketing outside of arenas where he played because he allegedly raped a girl while at USF. Such a sad ending.
I may be wrong, but I doubt it.
