I think he was better, but only marginally. He was just never a guy that developed great range because it wasn't really needed for him. most of his attempts from that deep were because he was wide open and he still had a rather mediocre percentage. His footwork and fade-a-way had become textbook though.

I wish that we had access to the advanced shooting stats from back then, because from 10 to 21 feet Mike was straight cash from 87 on.

It's funny while I'm watching a lot of the old vids now, I find my self being mad that he is taking so many long twos, not like 20 footers, but a lot of shots one foot, six inches or right on the line, but that was the norm back then, no one was even mad about it except maybe the math majors who were in college at the time.

I was referring more specifically to the 95-96 season. For sure, Jordan's lone flaw was that his three-point shot was erratic.

Great discussion in this thread.

Interesting fact about Cartwright: Jordan was furious at Bulls GM Jerry Krause for trading his friend Charles Oakley to the Knicks for Cartwright, and that started the feud between Jordan and Krause that lasted through the end of Jordan's career in Chicago.

Supposedly Jordan eventually admitted he was wrong about Cartwright and that it was a good trade for Chicago.

Cartwright was particularly valuable because he could always be counted on to control Patrick Ewing. This was because Cartwright used to mercilessly beat up on Ewing when they were teammates in practice scrimmages in his early years in the league. Ewing couldn't so easily forget those beatdowns.

The addition of Horace also helped make that trade feasible. Trading Oak for Cartwright if there was no Horace to replace his role might not have ended up quite as well for them.

In '91 his jumper was as consistent as it gets. Yes he drove more to the rim, but his jumper was in fact as consistent as in '96.

That is the percentage of his shots that he took from mid-range, not the percentage that he made.
