Hey Matt I know that you are a PES vet and I was wondering if you could post the option file with your edited players if you do not mind. Thanks in advance.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 Review

Just played this game again. Was not pleased with the experience. When I have the ball I feel so limited with what I can do with the ball. The shooting is good and crossing is good but I just feel this game is limited compared to FIFA. Yeah BAL is great but if the gameplay is not up to par forget it. Konami has a very hard job on their hands.

Limited as in what? Options?

In Fifa, there is a couple of limits concerning gameplay. The one-route football by the AI, the lack of fouls, the impressive *yet unrealistic* dribbling.

The list goes on. Not to say PES is perfect.

But gameplay...PES wins hands down. I continue to see something new every time I fire the game up.

I can see both sides of this. Going from FIFA to PES did leave me feeling a bit limited in my dribbling, but I think most of that was due to not having a feel for the controls. PES's dribbling system is different from FIFA's in that it's more based on subtle cuts based on the 8-directional control, whereas FIFA allows for more freedom of movement. While I would prefer a full range of movement in PES, the current mechanic does allow the user to beat defenders 1v1 without using fancy tricks -- also possible in FIFA, but in a different way -- since they are also restricted by the system.

I feel that if I spent a good deal of time with PES, the subtlety of the controls would come back to me (old WE PS2 vet), alleviating a lot of that limited feeling. PES/WE was always a 'feel' game for me... once you get it, there is a lot of depth of control, but it's of the subtle variety. Don't get me wrong, there are depth & subtlety to FIFA's dribbling/movement as well, but as I said, it's a different system due to the analog control.
