    Thats more like it Manning!

I really hope this is true.

And if it is, then it shows me that Peyton is being more realistic than Irsay.

Peyton Manning just keeps getting classier and classier. The fact that he purposely didn't want a high contract and the owner kept pushing it proves how badly he wants to win another Super Bowl.

ESPN reported Manning agreed to a five- year, $90 million contract which, at $18 million per year, matches the annual pay of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as the highest in the NFL.

I find it funny how quickly you changed your mind OP. You start a thread calling for his head on a platter nearly, yet now you're praising him and hoping he stays for good.

On topic, glad he restructured so the team can address needs.

Peyton's new contract is set to give him $23 million per season for the first three seasons (until he's 38) after that it's two years at $10.5 million per season, which we all know will never happen. He'll either retire or they'll restructure his deal again in three years time.

People keep using the excuse that without Peyton the Colts would win less than 6 games, but in all fairness you have to remember that it's the organization's own fault! They've been putting all their eggs into one basket for years now, instead of ensuring that they would be competitive regardless. Manning is without a doubt a fantastic player, but his contract isn't exactly team friendly. As Stampede Blue (a Colts fansite) described Peyton's new contract:
That figure is a ludicrous cap hit. Indy might as well forfeit the season if they have to pay $23 mill out of a $120 mill cap to just one player.

          [...]

This cannot be stressed enough, because it is the plain, simple truth: The Patriots and Eagles have passed the Colts in the talent department, and they did so via free agency and trades. The Packers, Steelers, Ravens, and Jets were already better. The Texans and Jaguars have dramatically improved their rosters, in particular their defenses. Indianapolis barely won the AFC South last year, and it wasn't because of injuries that they were held back. They underachieved because their roster wasn't very good, and Peyton Manning essentially willed them to ten wins.
And while people like to compare Peyton's contract to Brady's, Brady is only set to make around $13 million in 2011, which is enough for the Patriots to sign Ochocinco and Haynesworth (plus keep a number of free agents) and thus be a more realistic contender for the Superbowl than the Colts IMO.

Sweet Baby James, 23 Mil is a lot of cheddar.

And over 25% of the team's salary cap.

            Yikes.

For what it's worth, my guess is that since Peyton is scheduled to make "so little" (respectively obviously), that they'll resign everyone else with backloaded contracts.

In all fairness, Peyton could have pushed for a lot more than that.

And further damaged his team's ability to surround him with talent.

Peyton's a brilliant guy, on and off the field. And he makes enough money promoting every brand imagineable (Reebok, Direct TV, Gatoraid, Sony, etc. etc.). When you make a quarter of your team's salary, and you're one of 21 other starters, you're not leaving much room for your GM.

Brady may finally be up there in salary, now, but he's also got a lot of guys on rookie money around him that are starters. Guys like Gronk, Hernandez, Cunningham, Spikes, McCourtey, and on and on. The Colts haven't had the kind of drafts they're used to having in the last few years, so I think it puts more pressure on free agency, and again, that can be inhibited by a contract of that size.

I never bashed him, and I said I would like him to stay but for less then 25 mill per season and leave if he wanted more than or as much as 25mil. Why must people try to start stuff. I am a Colts fan first. Nice try though.

Seeing as how you made a thread 4 days ago titled "I think the Colts should let Manning go", you may be arguing semantics about whether your bashing him or not. You may not have called him a scrub or garbage, but...c'mon, man. Dude wasn't trying to start stuff, he was calling you on contradicting yourself. But, it's all good. I'm pretty sure the Colts are still gonna be better than the Bengals this year.

I'm not starting anything, and wasn't trying to. I never said you bashed him or anything like that. All I did was point out the irony of your previous thread called "I Believe the Colts should Let Manning Go" or something along those lines, and this thread is basically "Good job, Peyton! Stay here forever!".

Never once did I call out your fandom, never once did I accuse you of bashing your star QB. I just expressed my opinion on something I found funny. Nice try though.

I for one respect Manning more now. He could have demanded an A-Rod salary, and more than likely would have gotten it from someone. But he loves his team, and he loves his town, and he LOVES football, so he took less money so the team could benefit in the long run.
