    Football in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles City Council has officially endorsed the proposal for Farmer's Field, a 72,00 seat stadium to be built on the city's convention center campus.. Apparently, an announcement of which team will be moving to LA could be coming as soon as the end of this season..

Farmer's Field isn't expected to be completed until 2016, so the team would play temporarily at another LA venue..

I'm hearing the San Diego Chargers are the leading candidate for the relocation..

If it does happen, which I think is still very skeptical, it will be either the Chargers or Raiders, if not an expansion team. I just don't see fans letting their team leave though. I say the Chargers or Raiders because they've been in LA and still have a devoted fan base, so it would be somewhat of an easy transition. But I still have a hard time seeing it happen.

How many teams are going to have to fail in LA before people realize that it simply isn't a good pro football town?

The Vikings are also a good candidate to move with their stadium issues.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Not really up to the fans.. Granted it's a different sport, but look what happened to the Seattle SuperSonics int he NBA.. The fans fought hard to keep the team, but it's only so much they can do.. It's up to the teams' owners and the league's approval...

I've heard the Chargers, Bills, Vikings, Raiders and Panthers all as possibilities.. They were talking about it on Mike and Mike this morning and apparently, the Chargers are the front runner. Would be an easy transition since Chargers games are already shown in the LA market and San Diego is relatively close to LA.. They wouldn't lose nearly as many fans as if they were to move a team from Minnesota or Buffalo.. There are already Chargers fans in LA, and the commute to the stadium for fans based in SanDiego wouldn't be too unrealistic..

Actually, they've almost reached a deal.

Panthers won't go anywhere, once the Hornets left Charlotte put in a hefty, hefty fine for pro teams to leave the city.

It'll be San Diego, but both cities are awful for football anyways.

I just don't see how the NFL could possibly be ok with moving a franchise that has been in place for 50 years and has been moderately successful. I know they did it with Cleveland and I hated it.

On the other hand, when was the last time there was a pro football team in LA? The popularity of the NFL has surely grown since the last team left (was it the LA Rams to St. Louis? not sure off the top of my head).

Every time they talk about a team moving to LA its always the Jags. So what about them?

I think the raiders and rams both left around 95

As relayed by Rotoworld's Evan Silva, Schefter reported on ESPN today - citing "informed knowledgeable people" - that the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders are the two NFL teams most likely to relocate to Los Angeles (perhaps due to proximity and stadium issues).
                        Makes the most sense.

                          1995.

In 2002 the league all but handed LA an expansion franchise, but that city's movers and shakers couldn't get their act together in time. That allowed Bob McNair to sneak in the back door and purchase the franchise rights to what became the Houston Texans.

LA has had it's shot multiple times over; the commitment and passion for pfb on the part of the populace simply isn't there.

LA taxpayers didn't want their money going into the owner pocket, LA became the Big bargaining chip for those owners looking for a new stadium.
