Possibly, but not necessarily. If the team waits until after the draft to sign Lamar, Baltimore would get a 2024 and 25 first. For a team like Indy (my GOD that would sting Baltimore fans if he went there), their current pick is #6 so next years' would likely be worse. Baltimore might be willing to take more picks upfront in the 23 draft and trade him now, rather than wait the two seasons.

Lets say Indy offers #6, #79, #138, and a 2024 2nd. Would you rather have that? I think there's an argument.
Baltimore may prefer that yes. But I meant if I'm Indy I would prefer signing him outright right now as opposed to needing to hold trade talks with Baltimore.

And for Indy, Lamar is going to take a big chunk of your salary cap so you are going to need all the draft picks you can get to provide team depth. So if I'm them, I rather surrender two 1sts rather than a bucket of draft picks

The benefit for Indy is in knowing that they'll actually get Lamar if they come to a contract agreement. If Baltimore *does* match, they're hosed.

Definitely true, but at least its a defined value.

Another possibility would be sending back a prospect player. If Baltimore can be persuaded to take on a Trey Lance or Mac Jones, maybe that helps to get the deal done.

The AFC North man, you guys are a different breed. If you went back in time and told Cleveland what havoc it would cause in Baltimore, they'd probably make it bigger.

Makes me glad we paid Rodgers what we did at the time.

And I think that is the reason for the trade request. Its possible teams are a bit hesitant to engage in talks with Lamar over fear of Baltimore matching (maybe they saw the Baker situation and don't want a repeat) so Lamar is sending a message.

Sort of like "you don't have to worry about my ex, me and Baltimore are done"

Edit: To expand, I don't "take sides." This is a business negotiation and it makes no sense for me to personally feel any kind of way about it.
But if Baltimore were to match any offer at this point, that would push me towards taking a side, and it would be Lamar's. Because at that point it would be like you want him so bad you are willing to harm your overall reputation and good will withthe players across the league seem to have for the organization by holding him hostage, but you wont meet his demands? That would be BS.
I don't see that happening though, but you never know

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread

Sean McDermott made it clear he's calling the defensive plays this season. I've made my feelings known on Frazier, so this is IMO an important step. Dorsey needs to be better at game management now if the HC's attention is elsewhere.

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread

Lamar didn't talk with his agent to understand his options before demanding a trade.

Unless the Colts want to mortgage any future they have, I don't see him playing this upcoming season and potentially being totally done after the Ravens tag him the next season. His ego is taking a huge hit and I'm not sure he gives in and admits defeat.
