Art Shell gets fired

Only one year for the big man according to profootballtalk.com. John Czarnecki is reporting he may stay on as general manager.

Edit: Rotoworld is reporting this based on this report. Adam Schefter of the NFL Network called this weeks ago only to be trashed by Al Davis as untrue.

too Bad, i wish i could feel sorry for him, but his team was horrible. Still only one year is not a good shot at really making it work. This isnt as bad as ray Rhodes in Green Bay though, i coulnd believe that Crap.

while im at it are the bears seriously not going to renew Lovie Smiths contract!

About time. Hell, I was hoping for a firing before the season even started. This whole Art Shell phase proves why Al Davis needs to go. He just needs to write the checks, but the fact that a senile old bag is actually making football decisions for this organization is only holding the franchise back a few decades.

Best news I've heard today.

A. Who knows if this is true

B. If it is just exactly what dynamic coaching prospect do you think the Raiders will get??

I personally would like to see Shell stay and get a good offensive coordinator.

Let's face it, with any kind of offense, the Raiders would have been playoff contenders this year.

As screwed up as it sounds, I am more optimistic about the future than I have been in years. It is a lot harder to build a defense, and the Raiders finally have a young, talented D.

They are a good run stuffing DT away from being amongst the league's elite. They can add some support cast for the D and basically leave it alone this ofseason.

With a decent draft and some free agent pickups, and A NEW COODRINATOR, the team could be reasonably sucessful.

At least Shell understands the culture of the team. If he let's the assistant handle the x's and o's, there is room for a lot of immediate improvement.
