Re: New league to challenge the NFL?

Nobody who was actually drafted by an NFL team would move to this league just be a starter unless he was cut. No matter how they look at it they would be selecting from the same talent pool that the XFL did. Also the NFL and the powers that be in college football would never let them bring in high school kids. Even if they did that would be a disaster.

The NFL could not prevent high school kids from joining this league, but the ones doing so would be the kids with no chance at even making it in college. So it wouldn't be like their were stealing from the talent pool, more like the no-talent pool.

I think enough people would watch it to make it profitable. It doesn't have to rival the NFL. In fact, it really doesn't compete that much with the NFL if the games are on Fridays; just HS football. And there are enough people who don't care about high school football to still have pretty high ratings.
I think you underestimate how big HS football is. In some areas its nothing but in many the entire town gets together for HS football games on friday night... people of all ages. These die hard football fans watch the NFL and you don't want to screw with that. The NFL doesn't play along side college ball either until late in the year when you can't really predict bowls.

Even still, lets say you're right. You think a start up league would get away with trying to hurt HS football when the NFL has done this for years?

Re: New league to challenge the NFL?

Let me say this as a former D1 athlete, many students coming out of high school would jump at this. No I wouldn't limit it to non-qualifiers. I mean the kids are going to these schools for basically next to nothing. Hell, I might raise the salary to $85k to entice these future pros. Make no mistake these kids would leave for the NFL in 2-4 years. Kinda like now. Think of the marketing. "Watch the future NFL stars now." I mean if you were to secure the insurance claims for these kids it would help them so much more than the colleges. We all know there are student athletes but they're so many more athletes that take water polo as a major. Looking at the 2003 top 100 football recruits, about 30% of them actually made the NFL. Maybe less. Sure recruits like Reggie Bush, would still go to Southern California. But then if the rumors are to be believed he got paid more than our league could afford anyway. Mind you this is not a jab at Reggie, it's a jab at the double standard for the NCAA. Everyone knows athletes are paid. I personally was paid $250 for a bad a$$ hit. Not bank breaking...and I needed it when I was in school. I'm sorry I think that 85k and a strong insurance policy with the caveats of financial advising/professional coaching/ the establishment of a professional standard for the students to adapt to would lessen the chaos in the NFL. Parents would go for it far quicker than I think the board knows. I played against Darrent Williams in high school and I remember a conversation I had with him and his parents would have jumped at it. I'm sorry 65% of the league weren't highly recruited. This league would be sucessful because it would serve as a farm league for the NFL. OR it would force the NCAA to abandon it's foolish imagery. Any ex college football players I would love to hear your opinions.

I'd use the word miscalculation. The XFL would've done worlds better if Vince hadn't injected his WWE persona into it. You knew the league was going to have a short shelf life when he had the Rock intro the first game and then he comes out and makes a spectacle of himself in all his "Mr. McMahon" glory.

Well...I think this is a good idea. It's a shame that there is only 1 pro football league in America. Cities such as Birmingham, Vegas, Memphis, Orlando, Columbus, Los Angeles, and so on should have teams. I hope this works. By the way...high school football is horrid anyway. Thats just my opinion.

Re: New league to challenge the NFL?

There's actually another pro football league... not many people have heard of it...

It's called the Arena Football League.

That's not football. It's like saying indoor soccer is the same as the outdoor game.
