I'm actually fairly sure this is why
I'm going to the Jets/Browns game this weekend (don't ask me why!) and it's a 4:15 game and the Meadowlands is opening up the parking lot seven hours before kickoff. The drunkenness is going to be taken to another level and it will be even uglier once the Jets lose. I hope my car makes it out of there in one piece.

You do realize the reason for 10:30pm starts in the NBA is because the home team is a west coast team.

After living on the West Coast for the first 24 years of my life, I took it for granted how lucky we were to always be able to see an entire game. Now living in Texas, it's a chore to watch the end of any game into completion as they typically go to 11:00-12:00 at night.
That's screwing over west coast people who work though (if we're talking weekday baseball)....Basically saying "Sorry you're working and earning a living, but we care more about east coast sleep. Enjoy seeing just the 9th inning". I dunno, I dealt with living on the east coast just fine, and now that I'm on AZ time I'm getting used to everything being earlier. There's no real answer, someone gets screwed unless you just play weekend games in the middle of the day.

Attendance would also suffer if this was a home game out west. How can people get to a stadium by 4ish?

The ownwers don't decided what time the game start, Its FOX and CBS who does.

A game that should take 3 hours max goes for 3.5 hours for timeout after timeout.

If the game clock ran the way it should. After a punt or a kickoff the offense should have 40 seconds to get a play off...not two minutes for a TV timeout followed by 40 seconds.
This is my gripe as well. I think the best era in terms of TV coverage was the late 80s to about '94ish. Yes there were some pretty long games at times and commercialism was starting to creep in but it hadn't gotten to the absurdity that it has reached these days.

Yes

Starting at 6:30 means people can get out of work, grab a quick bite to eat and get to the game, and the game is on at 9:30 in the east, and people will actually watch it.

Re: Is TV ruining pro football?

TV and the million commercials are the main reason why the NFL will not be popular in Europe.
