Re: Joe Gibbs calling it quits

I knew something like this was going to happen after watching his season ending press conference. He didn't seem to make any strong statements one way or another. The game has passed Gibbs by but he was able to keep that locker room together and that is probably one of the best coaching jobs in terms of locker room politics that he ever did.

If Gregg Williams is the new head coach then the team might be a little more dynamic on offense as i'm sure Williams will take more risks but that doesn't necessarily mean the team will be better. He took some risks in Buffalo and the defense was quite good but the offense was rather mediocre. I think he got a bit of a raw deal in Buffalo so if he does get this chance here i'm sure he'll make the most out of it.

BTW what connections does Cowher have with the Redskins? (someone mentioned it earlier in the thread)

Oh and since I'm sure it will come up, I don't think Bill Cowher is going anywhere for at least another year.

He'll be replaced by Gregg Williams or Al Saunders. I doubt they will go outside the organization to find their new Head Coach.

Great coach he was. This season must've really taken a toll on him. Glad the 'Skins made the playoffs.

Thank God. I'm sure he was a great coach in the 80s, but he's just not anymore.

Re: Joe Gibbs calling it quits

much respect to coach joe. he is and always will be a legend. they never went 16 and 0, they never even won back to back championships, but no coach will ever win 3 superbowls with 3 different qb's again. just too hard these days. when s.taylor was killed, i told my wife that there really was no way for him to come back from this. i think that no matter what happened the rest of the year, after that he was done. something like that just takes a real toll on someone like gibbs. i have had my frustrations over his coaching the past few seasons, but i take my hat off to him. he did a good, not great job, but he is definitely leaving the organization better than when he got there. as for the next coach, i'd like to see russ grimm get a shot at the job. gregg williams will be a logical choice, but i think the way he runs a team will be too much of a culture shock to the players. we'll have to wait and see...

Cowher may be enjoying his sabbatical, and I bet he really wants to take another year off, but if he wants his payday this chance is gonna be tough to pass up.

He was never going to get exorbitant salary from the Rooney's, and Synder will back up the dumptruck of cash. I bet he'll give it a real thought.

Typical. Must be bitter. 4 out of the last 6 against you all and 1 more playoff win in the same time. So out of touch. Go Giants.
