Hey, what happens in the past stays in the past. Can't keep a guy just to save face from mistakes in choices that occured in the past. It's always best to cut your losses as soon as possible and move on. Besides, it's not a situation where the Lions are desperately trying to move Roy and are actively looking to trade him away like the Seahawks are doing with Shaun Alexander. The Lions like Roy and plan to keep him if things remain status quo. But if some team is offering a mid-first rounder (Eagles pick 19th) plus an ex-Pro Bowl cornerback who still has a few good years left in him for Roy which is a jaw-dropping offer, then that's tough to ignore. It actually makes more sense to jump all over it. And as good as Roy is, he's not a special A-level talent who is irreplaceable. The emergence of Calvin Johnson as the #1 receiver will soften the impact of this loss, and Mike Furrey and Shaun McDonald (provided he doesn't get traded to San Francisco soon) can pick up the slack as well.

If you have talent then keep talent. The potential of a 1st round pick and a decent corner isn't enough to part with a talent like Roy. I think Roy has all the make up of a special wr given time.

I'm hearing Fitz for Lito/Reggie Brown?

Kruza's got a point. You trade from your strengths and though everyone jokes on their draft history, WR is a position of strength for the Lions. Even if they lose Roy they still have 3 Wrs that can and have been solid starters in the NFL, one of which is expected to be a pro bowler as a #1 in the future. If they get an offer that blows them away they'd still be solid at WR and better at whatever other spots they get in the trade.

Also, you can't really say how close Detroit is. They started off strong last year before fading for whatever reason. They aren't far from being a playoff team with the current make up... not to mention they're in a division that's up for grabs. How good will Rodgers be for the Pack? How much can Minn do without better QB play? Are the Bears closer to the top or bottom of the division than they were last year? Detroit's got as good a shot as any of these teams to make some noise next year.

This would be sooo sick if the Eagles got Fitzgerald. The Asante Samuel signing is going to open doors to improving this team if we can move Lito for a #1 WR. Lito is a great corner, but has struggled to stay healthy only playing 34 games over the last 3 years. It would be nice to have both, and thus have the best secondary in the league but I would rather see the Eagles get someone like Larry rather than keep a fragile unhappy Lito Sheppard on the D.
