If he's a first ballot, then I don't see where his work on the field is overstated, don't you agree?

Here's a statement from Ted Thompson on the Packers Website.

Statement From Packers General Manager Ted Thompson:

Brett Favre has informed us of his intention to retire from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL. He has had one of the greatest careers in the history of the National Football League, and he is able to walk away from the game on his own terms - not many players are able to do that.

The Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude. He has given Packers fans 16 years of wonderful memories, a Super Bowl championship among them, that will live on forever. Brett's many accomplishments on the field are legendary. He leaves the game holding virtually every career passing record, plus his consecutive starts streak, which may never be duplicated.

The uniqueness of Brett Favre - his personality, charisma and love of the game - undoubtedly will leave him as one of the enduring figures in NFL history.

Most teams would love to be held captive the way Farve held the Packers "captive".

Then how would you explain that some of the best GMs in sports never played the game. How could Bill Belichick be the best talent evaluator in football if your reasoning was correct? Your argument is similar to the people that say you shouldn't criticize or critique Ryan Leaf or Rick Mirer because they are better at football than you.

Is Bret top 5, I doubt it but he is a hall of famer and most people on this board can't remember before the 85 season.

Bill grew up as a coaches son, His father was one of the most respected coaches during his era.

We are taking into account Favre's complete body of work and not an assessment of a snapshot of his career. More than just numbers come into play when the argument of "Best Ever", "Toughest Ever" or any other "(blank) Ever" comes into play.

Wow, I didn't see this coming after the season GB had.

He was one tough SOB in an age of primadonna athletes. Enjoy your trip to the HOF!

Eh, I think it can. Allen Iverson will be inducted the first time he's up into the basketball hall, but that doesn't mean he's better than Jordan or Magic.

Favre is no doubt one of the best of all time, but I don't think he was ever even the best QB currently playing (Elway then Manning/Brady). Of QBs I've seen, I'd put him #5-6, but I don't agree when people say he's the GOAT.

It's a stupid argument though. As someone said earlier, "if he's not 1-5, he's 6-10". Big whoop.
