COWBOYS UP THE ANTE FOR PACMAN?

Though we’re somewhat hesitant to post this story because in Bucky Brooks’ reality Calvin Pace is a member of the Dolphins and not the Jets, we recognize that sometimes in this business bad information gets used. (Fortunately, that has never — harumph – happened to us.)
Brooks’ latest offering? The
Cowboys have sweetened the pot in the Pacman sweepstakes, increasing their offer from a seventh-round draft pick to a seventh-round selection and a player.
The other potential sticking point is the status of Jones’ contract with the Titans. He’ll be due to earn in 2008 the base salary he would have received in 2007, since a one-year suspension likewise tolls his deal for a full year. Though Brooks thinks that the Cowboys will want a one-year contract, it’s more likely that they’ll aim to have Jones locked up longer than that, in the event that he performs well in 2008.
Under that scenario, a one-year deal would force the Cowboys to fork over a lot more cash in order to keep him from hitting the open market.
