it seems to me that you are the one that needs a tampon. All i did was mention some of Tex Schramm's accomplishments. If you want to question history, that is fine...but im not going to waste my time with your agenda.

are you upset that the Chargers havent been relevent in the league? What is the problem?

All I said was I heard about Lamar Hunt being responsible for the merger a lot more than Schramm. Then you went off on your pump up all things Dallas. Maybe you're upset you haven't won a post season game in over a decade and need to overcompensate. I don't know.

They were spending tons of money to do it which forced the NFL to raise salaries as well. It got to the point that it became a war of attrition and both sides decided to work together.

Namath was the straw that broke the camel's back in many ways. He became a huge star in the AFL and legitimized the league in a lot of ways. By that point in time the AFL was actually on a pretty even field with the NFL.

Also the merger wasn't quite set in stone as you make it out to be. There were a LOT of talk between NFL owners of reneging on the deal if the Jets were to lose to Baltimore in convincing fashion like the Raiders and Chiefs did. So in many ways Namath leading the Jets to victory validated the league and the notion of a merger.
good points imo. Namath had to be one of the key people responsible. He was certainly the most influential player.

as far as members of the league office, it was mainly Hunt (AFL), and Schramm (NFL)...but the players and their popularity were obviously important, since they drove the league.

Hunt was representing the AFL, so he might have been more important...but both men have been historically credited as pioneers in the merger.

btw, Lamar Hunt is from Dallas

im curious why people feel the need to ramp up their anti-Cowboy agenda so often.

it's pretty funny. All i did is mention Tex Schramm and some of his accomplishments, and people start chiming in with their "it's only about the Cowboys for some people" BS. lol I didnt invent any history.

Nope you didn't invent it, but you sure enhance it, with special Cowboy flair.

We all get it, all things Cowboy are the best ever.

Yes I know the Chargers are not relevant, yada yada yada. I've made peace with that.

Speaking of the Chargers i'm surprised Coryell didn't get a mention. If you look at the offense he ran back then it's not all that different then what we see from San Diego today. Joe Gibbs gets/got a lot of credit for being a huge influence on the offensive side of the ball but he worked with Coryell in SD (He was the OC) and I believe even as far back as being an assistant at San Diego State.

Then again I could be a little biased. I've watched quite a bit of Air Coryell Chargers football and boy was it ever beautiful to watch when they were on offense.

I'd mention Sid Gillman before Coryell. A lot of the principles of his offense were influenced by him studying Gillman while Coryell was at SDSU and Gillman was coaching the Chargers.

I think Gillman is widely regarded as the father of the modern passing game.

Jim Brown. The 4-3 defense was developed to by Tom Landry when he was the coordinator with Giants to try to stop Jim Brown.
