So Matt Ryan already has a more valuable contract, in terms of the total amount, than:

Tom Brady ($60 M)
Tony Romo ($67.5 M)
Marc Bulger ($60.5 M)
Drew Brees ($60 M)
Eli Manning ($54 M) <-- this may still be his rookie contract
Matt Hasselbeck ($44 M)
Phililp Rivers ($40.5 M) <-- prolly a rookie contract also

Basically, Matt Ryan's agent must be a real smooth operator. That and rookie salaries are ridiculous. And that this could really cripple the Falcons if he busts. And that they're probably going to cut Michael Vick if he's readmitted into the league (I think he's still technically on the Falcons' roster, but his salary doesn't count right now).

The Falcons are just trying to get a new face for their franchise and are obviously willing to pay alot to try to get people to forget Vick.
