Did you ever see him play? I'm going with "no" since you're just posting stats.

He was solid as a running quarterback, but his skillset didn't even remotely translate to the NFL. The fact that he had 14 starts and 1600 yards his freshman year should speak to the offense he played in. He would have been the worst quarterback to take a snap in the NFL any year he would have played quarterback, unless the team was willing to go to the QB Choice, deep lob, or smoke draw offense. He was a player you hated to have your team play, but as an NFL quarterback, he would have been laughably bad.

YOU said he was a horrible college qb - you did that; but he wasn't and I just gave an example since I don't believe you can have very good stats and be 'horrible' - doesn't make sense. You then say you hated to have your team play against him....why?
scared of horrible players?

lol, as an nfl passer he's 2/3 w/ 12 yards.

Listen, looking at his stats and some articles, while he was being drafted I've read comments that he could have been put at qb, wr or te - those are people who get paid to do this. Saying he WOULD have been the worst qb in the nfl any year is strange too since he never got a shot. I've seen some bad nfl qb's since I've been a fan, and his college throwing stats are actually better than some qb's playing now.

again, I 'm not saying he had potential to be a HOFer, just being real.

So you never saw him play and have no idea what you're talking about?

I'd venture that 70-85% of his passes were playaction. Arkansas ran the ball every single play except when they'd go play action and launch the ball downfield to a 10 foot tall receiver. He was a bitch to play because he'd cover 15 yards in 2 steps, not because he was a good passer.

Using stats is a joke. Of course a QB in that kind of offense can post efficient stats. Go look up some of the Nebraska QBs and you'll see the same thing. When you run the ball 80% of the time, it's a lot easier to throw play action and rack up efficient stats.

I'd compare Jerry Rice to Brandon Lloyd too if he was also a #1 WR playing in the same type of offense. Welker and ARE excel at essentially the same role. Doesn't matter which is better at it, and honestly it's not that clear which is for reasons Grunt already mentioned.

Speaking of drafting though, so it was the jags who 'made or classified' jones a wr? does anyone know if he was expecting to be drafted as qb? Are there any rules on drafting and player positions?
Yep, good talk. And yeah, he was drafted as a receiver. I don't know how he looked in the senior bowl but they were raving about his potential b/c of his athletic ability, speed and height. Personally even if he turned into Randy Moss, I don't agree with drafting raw potential like that so early in the draft.
