Running backs are a dime a dozen in the draft, and you continually have cheap veterans available once they get dumped after their one bad year, so no, running backs rarely should be resigned.
In certain cases, yes.

It's being reported by several sites that Steven Jackson will end his holdout and join the Rams Thursday (tomorrow).

Re: Steven Jackson - Official Holdout

How many teams don't have a good running back? Running backs truly are a dime a dozen.

You think the Seahawks would like a do-ver on Shaun Alexander?

What about the Cardinals with Edgerrin James?

The Texans with Dominick Davis?

Maybe even the Chiefs with Larry Johnson?

Don't over use your dollars at running back unless they are the super special, invincible to injury types.

Couldn't agree more. Rams are going to screw themselves paying this guy too much for too many years. Jackson is good, but invincible to injury hardly describes him.

Re: Steven Jackson - Official Holdout

This goes with what I was saying int he Boldin thread, but wanted to bring it up since he just signed.

Now who does a 6 year deal benefit here?

If Jackson doesn't match his current production he'll be cut within 6 years unless he renegotiates which we all know is not going to happen. If he exceeds his production to this point he'll eventually be demanding more money b/c as the years go by, players will be paid more and he won't feel like he's being paid the same amount as the group he thinks he belongs in. Hell, that'll happen even if he plays like he has been to this point.
