Steven Jackson - Official Holdout

MEQUON, Wis. -- "The Rams held their initial team meeting of training camp this morning without two key members of their offense -- Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson and wide receiver Donnie Avery. That makes Jackson, who is entering the final year of his original NFL contract, officially a holdout."

Rams need to get this dude signed ASAP.

Re: Steven Jackson - Official Holdout

Resigning big time running backs is a serious waste of money.

Dude just turned 25...Man, listening to you guys, no RB's should be resigned. He has a good amount of mileage but dude is a pretty rare combination.

The team that spends its money on the line instead of the back is the team that will be in the playoffs consistently.

Running backs are a dime a dozen in the draft, and you continually have cheap veterans available once they get dumped after their one bad year, so no, running backs rarely should be resigned.

Quoted for truth. How many times have we seen this? Great RB's turn to good RB's behind awful offensive lines. (Sanders/Sayers being the rare exceptions) They turn average rb's to good and so forth.

So SJ has been behind a suspect Oline for two years...What catagory does he fall under?

Re: Steven Jackson - Official Holdout

With Bruce gone, Holt on the down side of his career, and no other proven weapons on the squad, Jackson has to carry this team offensively for the next couple of years until other players emerge. If he was 28 I could see some hesitancy, but at 25 with only one 300 plus carry season on his legs, I think they need to lock him up.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

He falls under the "forget the running back, sign a better Oline" category.

Signing a running back to a huge contract works out very, very rarely in terms of team success. It's the easiest position to fill, and can be done so cheaply and on a rotating basis. Running backs may be the Gods of fantasy football, but in real life, the "elite" backs are a huge waste of money and rarely contribute to a championship team.
