worst MNF crew of all time imo. Tirico and Kornheiser are pretty clueless (although at least Kornheiser can be funny sometimes)...and then you have Jaws always trying to spin things on the field towards his agenda.

Yes, Kornheiser is terrible on MNF. Terrible. It was horrible listening to him last week go on and on about how much of a bust Bush has been.

The difference is Cossell wasn't a boob like Kornheiser is being. I have a ton of old MNF games in my collection and while Cossell was no football expert he sometimes came up with a gem of an observation or asked questions to Gifford and Meredith which would lead to either of them explaining things the viewer doesn't know. Cossell also found a way to tell human interest stories about the players in the game as well.

People hated Cossell for his brashness in an era of Curt Gowdy and Pat Summerall. They didn't hate him because he was irritating to no end and had no freakin' clue of what was going on.

I made the mistake of saying early on in Kornheiser's reign of terror that he would be the modern Cossell. I take back my comment and want him off the booth. Tirico and Jaws seem to have a pretty good chemistry going and I just love listening to Jaws breaking down the offensive game especially the QB play. All they need is someone like that on the defensive side of the ball.

Monday Night Football should dump all three of their current announcers and try something different: a zero man booth. Mic up several players and coaches and point some of those super-sensitive microphones directly at the action on the field. All important information (down and distance, subs, injuries, etc.) could be presented as on-screen graphics.

It needs something that drastic to get me to watch anymore.

That would work....for about a half.

At some point I'll want to know why certain plays are working, Why is my team struggling on offense? Is this guy playing hurt? How the hell did this WR get so wide open?

Commentary is a necessary evil my friend.

I don't know, the 70,000+ people that actually attend the games seem to get by okay.

You're probably right though. It's just that sometimes listening to Kornheiser & the gang makes that mute button a very attractive option.
