Again, it's not like I'm insensitive to the matter, but it's also not like we know the guy and/or are related to him. We're a bunch of guys hashing this out on a forum.....that's all.

What I'm saying is we're talking about a larger issue. And I think you're helping me make my point. So if we're seeing more gun violence in our communities everyday, and you know you have the chance at someone retaliating for something stupid you did before ....why wouldn't you take the necessary steps to shelter yourself?

Why? No one is talking politics or race here. We're just having an indirect debate.
There is no amount of money that's going to make me afraid to live my life. We're not talking about Pacman in a strip club, or Javon Walker spraying a crowd with bottles of Moet. You're suggesting essentially that these 20+ year old guys should be afraid to go out at night.

If not that, then you just don't agree that clubs are good places to be in general (what it sounds like) which isn't fair to speak so strongly on places you don't seem to know much about. Just b/c you don't like clubs doesn't mean no one should go to them.

Second. I have to disagree with some of the remarks about where he should and shouldn't be. There are people that are saying that he should be at home before the season starts fair enough. Tell that to Sean Taylor's family. Random acts of violence are just that random.

There are literally hundreds of rich dumb drunk people out every night in LA, and you never hear of this kind of stuff going on. It sucks that it happened in Jacksonville an area that has had it fair share of violent crimes.

It seems like some people here are blaming the victim which is just piss poor. He was shot while sitting in a car. Not while fighting in a parking lot, punching strippers in a club. Not throwing champaign on club goers. Just sitting in a car! He was on his way home with female company nothing wrong with that. I manage to go out at least one night most weekends am I asking for trouble because I like to dance with females and drink and laugh with friends?

Young men with money and a feeling of invincibility are going to go out and have fun. Hell young men who work at McDonalds are going to go out on the weekend. If Collier worked at UPS no one here would even care that he got shot.
Specifically, blaming the victim for not doing anything against team rules or breaking the law, is very very bad imo. Nice post.

Per ESPNNews:

Collier is now paralyzed below the waist and had to have one of the legs amputated.

That is absolutely horrible. I hope he ends up recovering enough to get back to a semi-normal life.

Re: Jags' Collier shot, has life-threatening injuries.

Such a sad story...

Quote:
During a news conference at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center today, Dr. Andy Kerwin, Collier's physician, said Collier was shot in the right shoulder, back, left groin, left leg and right buttock.

Collier was on a ventilator for two weeks and developed pneumonia and an infection in his buttock during that time. The wound in his leg caused a major artery to clot up and after performing surgery on that artery, doctors realized the leg had to be amputated above the knee.

Sad. Did the police ever find who did it?

They haven't even found a motive, let alone the perpetrator.

Horrible, horrible news.
