I used to be one of Culpepper's staunchest supporters, but damn does that guy have a few screws loose, and getting looser by the day.

Re: Dante Culpepper officially retires

2004, DCP's best season with over 4700 yards, one of the better seasons in NFL history, Randy Moss only caught 49 balls that year.

I mean, yes Moss was a huge part of his pro-bowl seasons, but man 110 passer rating. You can't just equate that to one player.

Tom Brady was never above a 95 passer rating before Moss. But he's still considered a top 3 QB before Randy came along.

That system gave career years to:

Jeff George
Randall Cunningham
Nate Burleson

and a few others. That system was all about numbers. But most of these guys never had the numbers before or after playing in that system.

Actually George had betters years in Atlanta in '95 and Oakland in '97.

Randall Cunningham had a very good career before going to Minny. Statistically he may have put up better numbers in Minny but his best days was in an Eagles uniform.

The jury is still out on Burleson as he's only entering his 6th season.

Well maybe as good. If you go by QB rating, technically MIN was his best year. At least we could say he didn't have any better years than MIN.

Randall, no doubt was way better with the Eagles. And that's my point, as a 35 year old at the end of his career he puts together his best overall year ever passing the ball. Plug in any talent to that system and it flourished. Imagine if Randall was 25 on that team?

True to an extent but you have to remember he matured as a QB by that point. He wasn't looking to run around the field and took what the defense gave him when his #1 receiver wasn't open (which wasn't often)

You can't just say any ol' scrub QB could succeed under that system. There has to be some talent involved. George for all his faults did have a cannon for an arm and Cunningham had matured as a QB. Culpepper probably isn't as great of a QB as he was in Minny but I wouldn't say he had no talent. I do believe his growth was stunted a bit with that one year with the "Randy Ratio" where he basically tried chucking the ball to Moss even when Moss was double and triple covered.

Re: Dante Culpepper officially retires

Exactly, SPTO...

I'm sorry, but you don't complete 69% of your passes and throw for 4700 yards in that same season unless you have some talent...
