Re: Petition to remove Ed Hochuli and Officiating Crew from future NFL Games

There was a game about 13 years ago when Cowher was coaching the Steelers. The crew flagged the Steelers for having too many men on the field and Cowher took a polaroid and stuffed it into the ref's shirt as they left for halftime which showed they only had 11 on the field. Two refs were fined their game cheque (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...8260&sec=&spon=) . The same thing could happen to Hochuli.

Hochuli is a good ref but that was a horrible call. Like JohnDough said, it WAS a fumble AND the ball went backwards. It wasn't even close to being an incomplete pass.

That was a famous game and more or less signaled the end of a longtime referee's career. I still remember seeing Cowher stuffing the polaroid in Gordon McCarter's shirt at halftime of that game.

Nothing about a suspension, just a grade deduction.

For those saying: "Well, man, SD should've stopped them anyway!", the sad part is, SD already DID stop them.

That's what's sick. SD shouldn't have to make two stops to make up for a ref's incompetency.

Both calls the pick and the fumble were screw jobs. I've come to understand when you're a Charger fan, those things are going to happen. you simply are not destined for success. Just like last year, best chance for a SB in 2 and a half decades, and half the team goes down to injury.

I've just begun to accept it at this point.

Re: Petition to remove Ed Hochuli and Officiating Crew from future NFL Games

I think the punishment fits the crime. It's easy for us who got to watch on TV to rip the guy but watch the play. He's behind the QB and off to the side, he can't tell what direction the ball is going in only that it's not going where Cutler wanted it to go. And the NFL has put officials in a pretty lousy position with this particular rule. They want officials to not blow the whistle when the ball hits the ground if it could be a fumble, but they also tell their officials to protect the quarterback ad blow the whistle on a play near them like that where it could be an incomplete pass. The NFL has also practically conditioned their officials to protect the quarterback at all costs and let replay sort out the mistakes, but of course here replay can't. The NFL doesn't exactly set them up for success. It doesn't excuse the bad call, but should be enough to quiet the people who want the guy fired or his career ruined.
