J-ville fans......

...what's the reaction to Del Rio's permanent demotion of Peterson? From the fans? From the locker room?

I don't pretend to know exactly what was said between the 2. But to bench your leading tackler sounds like this is personal. I can't have a coach who doesn't put his best players on the field because he got some unwanted "feedback". Unless Petersen isn't running the D as called or is inferior in some way, Del Rio isn't showing the temperment to be a head coach.

So if you're the top person in your field at work you should be allowed to say whatever you want to your boss with no repercussions?

Anything you want to say? Of course not. You shouldn't have a job if you go to far. But Del Rio didn't do that. He has permanently demoted him. From what I understand Del Rio was giving, shall we say, a "spirited critique" of the Jags performance & Peterson spoke up. For himself or the team, justified or not, I don't know. But whatever it was, Peterson gave his "colorful objection" & Del Rio kicked him out of the locker room. Sat him last week.

So the reprecussions have come. Now Del Rio is spiting the team, not just Peterson, for a personality clash. That's doing everybody a disservice. As a coach, as anyone in a supervisory position, you can't be an effective leader if, one, you can't take a dissenting opinion &, two, if you hold grudges. Even if it comes from a subordinate. People who surround themselves w/"yes"men fail.

That's why I'm asking Jag fans about the situation. Is Del Rio doing the right thing for his team? Or is he losing it? I don't follow them closely, so maybe there is something else in the background I'm not aware of.

I think it's a great move...I haven't gotten a chance to watch all games but if there is a disruptive player in more ways then one and not giving his all, Then bench him...I am fast getting tired of professional sports as a whole...I am tired of people making so so much money and them doing what they want when they want to do it.. I would rather have a mediocre team of hard playing players then a superbowl team with a bunch of concieded players...

Yea, that's a move that I don't understand either.

JAGS MOVING PETERSON OUTSIDE

Posted by Mike Florio on November 15, 2008, 10:52 a.m.
In addition to moving former staring middle linebacker Mike Peterson to the second team, Jags coach Jack Del Rio is sliding Peterson to the weakside linebacker position.
Peterson started his career in Indy as a weakside linebacker. For the remainder of the season in Jacksonville, Peterson will serve as the understudy to Justin Durant.
Per Michael Wright of the Florida Times-Union, the move had been in the works since training camp, but the team had opted to placate Peterson. After the much-publicized spat with coach Jack Del Rio after a Week Nine loss to the previously 0-8 Bengals, the decision was made to move Peterson.
The cynical mind might wonder whether Del Rio specifically baited Peterson during the team meeting that prompted a two-day banishment in order to make it easier to make the move that Del Rio supposedly has wanted to make all year.
And why didn’t Del Rio simply bench Peterson and/or move him? Del Rio did it last year with a position of a significantly greater profile. If Peterson was destined to become a backup making $3 million in the final year of his contract, why didn’t Del Rio do to Peterson what Del Rio did to Byron Leftwich?
In hindsight, it might have been the best way to get a team that has underachieved in 2008 to keep in mind that last year’s wins don’t count in this year’s standings.
