Lol, it's sad but true. They come up with all kinds of rules. Defensive players cant even react and make a play anymore. They have to think all the time about "well maybe if i ease up a little i wont get penalized and/or fined."

That old school vid had so many hits that would be considered "dirty" by today's standards its unreal. GROW SOME BALLS! IT'S FOOTBALL!!!

You mean back when most cars didn't even come with seatbelts or airbags, people were allowed to drink a brew while driving, pregnant women often smoked cigarettes and drank wine while carrying, and condoms were thought to "ruin the mood"?

I understand some thought that the NFL is being overly cautious but it doesn't make any sense to compare big hits to the times of the players that are fighting for help from the NFL b/c they can barely walk or speak from being smacked silly. I enjoy a big hit as much as the next guy (really enjoyed that hit on Welker, wow) but that's not what I watch football for, and I'd rather a bit of protection for the guys I want to watch actually play the game.

Re: Hit of the year: Wes Welker, meet Ryan Clark

In slow motion, it's really easy to say, ah, the ball was tipped and then Ryan Clark hit him. But the reality is, that wasn't a deep route, it was a pretty short throw that Cassel was gonna make. Clark had loaded up by the time he could realize the ball got tipped, watch it in regular speed, he would've had to stop his motion in a split-second. If he had slowed up and it hadn't gotten tipped, Welker would've probably caught it and ran for another 5 yards like he always does. I see nothing wrong with what Clark did here. Slow motion replays make stuff like this always seem dirtier than it really is. Some players might have been able to recognize the tip and slow up sooner but this is borderline enough that I would give the player the benefit of the doubt. I'm guessing that's what the NFL saw and they said even the flag was questionable and probably shouldn't have been thrown.

That's a pretty good article on the topic.
