What about Matt Jones? He had more cocaine than Tony Montana and he is still playing.

Since when is cocane a performance enhancer or masking agent?

This is interesting stuff because the NFL has a no tolerance policy but then again you have teams with weight clauses in their contracts and these things are used to help lose weight.

It's also kinda fishy how the NFL goes ahead and does this now. Of course, Goodell and his mnions will say it was a legal matter and now that the legalities are out of the way they can legislate against the players as they see fit.

IMO if the NFL really wants a no tolerance policy in regards to masking agents and outright performance enhancers then the weight clauses need to be thrown out of contracts as well.

It's Cocaine! He was arrested, mug shots and all because he was cutting it up when the police arrested him. Jerry Porter made a comment about Matt Jones a few weeks ago and was counsel about it and almost fined. he had to apologize.

Re: NFL Suspends Six

Sucks to be them.

Quote:
The league went so far as to reprint a key section of the policy in its release:
''You and you alone are responsible for what goes into your body. Claiming that you used only legally available nutritional supplements will not help you in an appeal. ... Even if they are bought over-the-counter from a known establishment, there is currently no way to be sure that they contain the ingredients listed on the packaging or have not been tainted with prohibited substances. ...
''If you take these products, you do so AT YOUR OWN RISK! For your own health and success in the league, we strongly encourage you to avoid the use of supplements altogether, or at the very least to be extremely careful about what you choose to take.''
The league also says it sent two warnings about StarCaps in December 2006 -- one to team presidents, general managers and head athletic trainers and another to NFLPA executive Stacy Robinson, who is charged with watching over the policy for the union.
Pretty cut and dried.

Should this be the same for every crime an athlete commits? Let them slide b/c it's not fair to the fans? Rush to judgment so it doesn't effect the playoff push? I think Goodell probably started off too hard and now appears inconsistent but he's been pretty consistent in cases like this.

Jones will be suspended. The severity of his punishment by the NFL (like everything else that is tied to legal cases) will be determined based on the punishment by the courts which hasn't happened yet (more a comment to the poster that brought him up than you).

As for the weight clause, that's a bunch of crap. There are plenty of things you can take and plenty of things you can DO to lose weight. All the NFL is asking is that you not take anything that's not on the banned list. If there are tic tacs on the banned list then players can't eat tic tacs... it's pretty simple. These guys should know what's on that list as part of their job. Either they knew and took it anyway or didn't know and that's no excuse. It sucks for the players, teams and fans of the teams but it is what it is.
