You don't need to have experience in order to be more demanding. What you need is a front office that backs the coach.

Sam Rutigliano wasn't successful? I assume you were born before he was eventually axed in '84.

Re: The Official "Black Monday" Thread

You can say Sam was reasonably successful, though I don't remember much of his era. Even including everyone since Marty was a rookie coach who was ultimately let go:
Bud Carson - made the AFC Championship first season, but was 3-13 the next.
Belicheat - one playoff season in 4 years.
Chris Palmer - probably should've been given more time.
Butch - one playoff season with mostly players that he didn't chose.
Romeo - one playoff near miss and an 0-8 record against Pittsburgh.

If Pioli gets hired in Cleveland don't be surprised to see Josh Mcdaniel as the head coach.

Or maybe Pioli will hire Mangini and they'll complete the circle of New England guys?

Re: The Official "Black Monday" Thread

don't forget that dungy might be done after this year, though on his own accord. plus, we supposedly already have our coach in the wings (why couldn't they make a run for cowher? would he really turn down a job with the colts?).

Re: The Official "Black Monday" Thread

Mangini may have trouble even getting a job in the NFL if the rumors are true about him being the person who outed Belicheck about spygate. Also, don't be surprised to see Romeo back in NE as a coach.

Re: The Official "Black Monday" Thread

I seriously don't understand the obsession with Cowher. Good coach, no doubt, but nearly good enough that every fan who wants a new coach throws his name out there when hasn't made any indication that he wants to come back next year, if at all. With the way the Colts have been run since Dungy's been there, promoting internally and continuing business as usual makes a whole lot more sense to me.
