Despite rampant reports that the Chiefs are negotiating with former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan to replace Herm Edwards, they are not, sources said Friday.

The Chiefs never have made any contact with Shanahan — never. And there have been no contract negotiations.

So unless people I have known for years are blatantly lying to me, Shanahan will not be the next coach of the Chiefs. It’s not happening. People can keep talking as if it is, but it’s not. Shanahan will not be the coach of the Chiefs in 2009.

Bob Stoops FTW!

or maybe not.

BTW I think Edwards would be a perfect coach in college and I could see him going that route after taking a year off. Just my opinion.

What a swift decision. I guess the job Edwards did ithis January did him in.

Adam Schefter took Mort to school. After Mort said earlier Friday that Shanhan was close to joining the Chiefs, Schefter categorially said that Shanahan isn't returning to coaching in K.C.

Mort now admits some of his "five sources" say a marriage is unlikely and the sides may not have even spoken. There looks to be interest from Kansas City's side, but it doesn't appear to be mutual. Scott Pioli can't be enjoying this.
Mortensen fails again?

I think I'm going to start calling him Moron, instead of Mort.

I dont' think it was a good idea to fire Herm man...Herm has himself set up for a good team. Now somebody is going to win with his guys. His team was just young, a little experiece for the guys, and they could be better. I thought they were going to be better this year anyway. Herm is a good coach. Had the right guys in place to do something.

Herman Edwards always gets veteran teams that are ready to fall off the cliff. Then when the team goes into rebuilding mode, he gets the blame. I won't sit here & claim Edwards is a great coach. But it'd be nice to see him get a team ready to go on the upswing instead of the front end of a tailspin. Then I'd know what he can truly do. A genetic mixture of Lombardi, Halas & Noll couldn't have gotten the Chiefs into the playoffs last year.
