Re: Greatest Catch in NFL History

Dude, that catch wouldn't even make the top 5 this season. No way is it the greatest, not even close. It was an ordinary routine catch. WR's make those catches in practice. The only reason it looked amazing was because it was over 3 defenders. And seriously, it may have not even been the best in that game. Larry Fitzgerald's catch was pretty impressive, just the way he exploded right when he got the ball and ran past everyone for the TD.

I'd argue The Catch 2 is even better than Santonio's. Dude gets jacked up.

Ugh, that game....

How was Fitz's catch any better than Holmes? When talking about the catch itself (the actual catch, not what he did after), Holmes' was pretty impressive, considering the situation and the 3 three defenders in front of him. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the greatest in NFL history, but it was impressive.

The throw should be what people are talking about. That window was tighter than mosquito *****.

Actually i'd argue that Fitzgerald's catch where he was flipped over was better then Holmes' catch when you think about it.

That catch was Randy Moss like, well Randy Moss when he was with the Vikes.

I mean what are we talking about here???

The impact OF the catch, or the catch itself?

Fitz had to go up and snake it from a defender; its just that HE makes it look so easy. It was reminiscent of Tyree's too, and it was for a score.

Holmes' catch was over the heads of 3 guys who never even affected his chance to get the ball. He was more or less wide open because if those defenders were any closer he would've gotten hit, and he wouldn't have gotten those two feet down.

What about the imaculate reception???

I'm of the perspective that both have to be taken into account, and I'd posit that, if Roethlisberger hadn't marched the Steelers right back down the field after Fitzgerald's second touchdown, we'd be talking about Fitz's first TD in a similar context we're currently debating Santonio's.

Returning from the hypotheticals, however, Holmes made a great play on the ball in triple coverage along the sideline to win the Super Bowl in its waning moments, what more does that play need to stand on its own as a great play in football history? (note I did not say greatest, but simply great).

Never have seen it, it was before my time.

To you and the others who keep saying this, name five better catches from this season and I'll believe you.
