You are saying astroturf is slower than grass? That is the first time I have ever heard that.

Passing numbers will continue to go through the roof. Yet another reason why it's stupid to compare passing and receiving numbers today with days gone by. It was a different league.

I have a question:

If a defender is blocked into the ground like Pollard was, is he now supposed to get up, or excuse me, TRY to get up to make the tackle/sack????

That's the whole point. If a defender is driven to the ground, it basically either a.) forces him out of the play or b.) he has to try to grab the QBs foot or something and try to "ankle pick" him. In any case, this is pretty stupid.

hahahaha... are you actually saying astroturf is "safer" than grass/field turf because it's slippery when wet?

First of all, how many rain games does each team play per season? One or two? Seems about right. Not enough to make a difference.

Secondly, astroturf is much "faster" than grass or field turf. It's like driving on asphault versus driving on a dirt road. There's less friction on the asphault.

Finally, there's no "give" on astroturf. It's essentially a carpet. When your foot plants, it stays there. On grass or field turf, there's a "cushion," be it the natural soil of grass or the rubber pellets in field turf, that allows your foot to sink in a bit and take away some of the impact. Same with falling on to it.

Well, they better start calling holding once the defender is on the ground as its holding if you keep them from getting up by laying/sitting on them. The defender can still swipe at them, so I think what is going to happen is you going to see a lot more broken ankles now. If you are on the ground, the only way to bring them down is swing your arms, so some nice shots to the achilles tendon or ankle will bring the QB down.
