Seriously if he's willing to go in with the right attitude he could be a great tutor for Russell.

I agree that if the Raiders were a team that were ready to win now then Garcia would absolutely be the smart choice to play at QB, but unfortunately the Raiders aren't going to be winning anytime soon so they need to play Jamarcus to see what we have in him or if we need to move on and find another long term solution.

I agree with SPTO though, that it's sad that Jeff Garcia's career has come to this, he's had success in SF, TB, and when playing with the Eagles so I'd think someone would want to pick him up as a starter, or at least other places better than Oakland might want him as a backup.

Hopefully he'll keep a good attitude as a Raider, then it's a HUGE win for us!

Well in that case, this is a pretty pointless signing. I don't see how Garica would help Russell, he ain't no miracle worker.

So I take it you don't have much faith in Russell being the future at QB?

I do, but not our QB for the present. He has no one to throw to other than Zach Miller, it's bad enough that he isn't accurate right now. I rather have him learn from the bench than to get killed on the field.

I agree, it's a great signing. He's a consummate professional and can be a great mentor for Russell. Garcia has always been known as a hard worker, and has great intangibles, something that RUssell sorely needs to develop.

Not to mention, in this day and age, you HAVE to have a competent backup QB. Very few are going to take all of the snaps in a season.

Excellent offseason for the Raiders so far.
