Tony Mandarich with an in depth interview on ESPN to be aired this weekend. Interesting stuff I had never heard.

Re: Biggest Draft Bust Ever reveals all

I seen him on NFL Network, On the top 10 busts of all time. I seen one DE throw him to the side like he was nothing.

The pictures say it all...

Re: Biggest Draft Bust Ever reveals all

I've already seen his story a million times... for me he's the opposite of Brian Bosworth is that everyone created the buzz for him whereas Bosworth created the buzz for himself. Don't be fooled though, Tony Mandarich HAD to happen for scouting, ect. to be where it's at right now. You're still going to have teams screw up the top picks, but I think it's become a much more exact science than it was say... 10-15 years ago. Now if we can get GMs to quit putting so much credit into 40 yard dashes :cough:Al Davis:cough:, bench reps, ect.... then the draft will probably get as accurate as it ever will be.

Unlike Bosworth, Mandarich was able to gain a measure of respect after playing in the CFL for a while then performing very admirably for the Colts for a few years so it's not like he completely flamed out and became a bum.

Absolutely true and I wouldn't even consider him the biggest draft bust ever - - - not by a long shot considering he did have a somewhat productive career. He's nowhere as near the level of bust of say a Ryan Leaf or a RJ Sowards or a hundred other players who contributed nothing or less. As least Mandarich had the pride to continue working on his abilities and try to make it instead of just giving up.

exactly better than ending up as a prison guard playing against Adam Sandler, Nelly, 'Cheeseburger' Eddie and them.

You can train a dude thats never played football b4 to be good at those combine things.

Sif 40 yard dashes in shorts, on tartan, with athletic spikes, mean anything.

Re: Biggest Draft Bust Ever reveals all

The guy went from the most dominant college offensive lineman ever to a guy who got tossed like a rag doll every play. Talent level regressed to the point the Pack couldn't put him on the field. Had to leave football for three years to straighten his life out. Good for him. From what I have read, he is a good guy.

From the Packers standpoint, the team that drafted him, one of the biggest draft busts ever. The hype and expectations of a Ryan Leaf was nothing to the guy who was going to revelolutionize the tackle position and fight Tyson in his prime.

For those of you who have heard his story a hundred times, there is stuff in there I have never heard. He has a new book coming out and I don't think he has talked about some of the details before.
