Re: Three Years Later, Grade Your Team's '06 Draft
Tennessee Titans
1 - #3 - Texas, Vince Young. Quaterback.
the '06 Rookie of the Year. Pro Bowl, Madden coverboy. A so-so sophmore year. Then rock bottom. Coach Fishers been quoted "Vince is still the future", i don't know if it's the truth, i think the jurys still out and he still may be a great player at some point, but only if he can keep it together mentally, which his struggled lot with, and probably not for tennessee. Unfortunately. I think some people forget, when his on the field, he might be the best overall athelete on it.
2 - #45 - USC, Lendale White. Runningback.
Was quiet his rookie year behind a resurging Travis Henry. Has struggled with weight issues his entire pro career, apparently his got it in check this year, we'll see. Despite his lack of speed, has showed good enough vision and durability to be a solid factor. Started all of '07 to a 1k+ season, and was a TD machine last year with 17 rushing. Good starter.
4 - #102 - Penn St., Calvin Lowry. Safety.
Was good depth at one point, started a bunch of games in '07 till Pro Bowler Michael Griffen took over. Eventually missed out on making the team, picked up by Denver, believe he played poorly when given a prominent role there. Gone.
4 - #116 - N.C. State, Stephen Tulloch. Linebacker.
A solid pick in the fourth round. Is very versatile being servicable at every LBer position. Cracked the starting line up last season in the #2 ranked defense for points allowed. Has played well in the middle against the run, made a big stop in primetime against the Colts on 4th down. Solid starter.
5 - #137 - Miami (Oh), Terna Nande. Outside Linebacker.
An athlete at LBer, never made it past the practise squad. Gone.
5 - #169 - Tennessee, Jesse Mahelona. Defensive Tackle.
I believe spent possibly his rookie season on the active roster. Practise squader. Gone.
6 - #172 - Wisconsin, Jonathon Orr. Wide Reciever.
Never saw a regular season game. Gone.
7 - #215 - Samford, Cortland Finnegan. Cornerback.
The Pro Bowl, All-Pro cornerback taken outta' SAMFORD. lol. Steal in the 7th round. THE REAL STEAL of the draft. Cracked the nickel his rookie year. Good starter by his second. Elite by his third.
7 - #245 - Utah, Spencer Toone. Linebacker.
I believe he spent a few games on the active roster as a reserve. Practise squader. Gone.
7 - #246 - Utah, Quinton Ganter. Runningback.
Originally believed to be just another camp body, Q's stuck around. He blew up last year in the preseason, earning himself a spot on the active roster. Even rushing for a TD. Beat out a round 2 pick from '07 (Chris Henry) for the 3rd RB spot and also lines up as a fullback from time to time. Solid depth.
So three starters, 1 an all pro pro bowler. One complete enigma in VY. One solid backup. And 5 nothings.
All in all, a very solid draft that's added to Tennessee's recent success. VY pulls the grade, but Finnegan's the best player on a solid defense. B+
