Terrible money, but he'll be released or restructured before 2014. The key thing here is to free up some cap space so that Carolina doesn't HAVE to trade Peppers. Jake will never see the full $42 million. He will get his $20 though obviously which is still overpaying him.

This was only done to get under the cap for some signings, but still, that's a lot of cash after one of the worst QB playoff performances ever.

The team is running close to the end here. They have zero depth on both lines, angry Peppers and his $17 salary or possible holdout situation, very little cap room to sign any relevant FA, and no first round draft pick to add an immediate impact player. Plus, one of the toughest schedules next year.

I still don't get why they franchised Julius Peppers, he held all the leverage in the beginning and now they have to work around that franchise money.

Somewhere Smitty is banging his head against the wall... A good portion of Jake's numbers come from somebody making him look good. Smitty would have even more incredible numbers if he had someone who knew how to put the ball right on the numbers, instead of having to go and make some acrobatic play on the ball, which 80% of the time has been underthrown.

Ugh.... Color me underwhelmed... I almost cussed in front of my 5 year old in the car yesterday when I heard the news. I think when he heard the news, Jake threw ANOTHER interception....
