And that surely will not happen now that there are reports that they'll release him either way. Why would a team give up a draft pick to bring a guy in when they can just wait for him to be released and sign him?

If you trade for him, you ensure that you get him. If you wait till he gets cut then you have to fight the 31 other teams for him.

Different for the Lions. He's already said where he wants to go.

On PAPER, Detroit looks really improved after the draft and considering free agency and now the possiblity that LB Larry Foote might join the LB corps. This could be last year's Miami Dolphins, going from the cellar to respectibility. Word is good on Culpepper so far looking like he is playin back up to close to the prior level in the offseason workouts.

Added a lot of talent in the draft and picked up some really key guys in FA.

The only thing is the Lions might want to at least see what the Steelers are asking for because if he gets traded to another team, it doesn't matter where he said he wants to go. But I doubt any team will want to give up much anyway.

I agree but look at the offseason moves.

Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia - probably won't help this year but could be a franchise QB.

Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State - will help immediately no matter who the QB is. Gives another strong pass catching threat.

Louis Delmas, FS, Western Michigan - Many say he'll be the starter in 2009.

Deandre Levy, OLB, Wisconsin - Word is he'll move inside in a reserve role.

Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State - Great return potential and another solid WR to throw to.

Sammie Lee Hill, DT, Stillman - Should find a spot in the DL rotation.

Aaron Brown, RB, TCU - I have no idea if he'll make the team.

Lydon Murtha, OT, Nebraska - potential LT prospect, combined with last year's pick Gosder Cherilius, could be less of a weakness at T this year.

Zack Follett, OLB, California - More LB depth.

Dan Gronkowski, TE, Maryland - TE depth

Lions sign OT Kirk Barton
Lions sign FB Terrelle Smith
Lions sign WR Ronald Curry
Lions sign WR Will Frankin
Lions re-sign OT George Foster
Lions sign TE Will Heller
Lions acquire OLB Julian Peterson from Seahawks
Lions sign ILB Cody Spencer
Lions re-sign RB Aveion Cason
Lions sign OT Daniel Loper
Lions re-sign G Damion Cook
Lions sign CB Phillip Buchanon
Lions sign DT Grady Jackson
Lions acquire CB/S Anthony Henry from Cowboys
Lions sign CB Eric King
Lions sign WR Bryant Johnson
Lions sign RB Maurice Morris
Lions re-sign K Jason Hanson
Lions re-sign G Stephen Peterman

Now add LB Larry Foote to the mix potentially and that is a pretty darn good offseason haul for a team that went 0-16 last season!

Re: Larry Foote set to be cut by Steelers?

I see a lot of positives in the offseason but we're simply not gonna get to respectability in one offseason IMO. I'd settle for clear showing that we're moving in the right direction (which isn't hard after a 0-16 season, lol.)

Re: Larry Foote set to be cut by Steelers?

I think going 6-10 for example would do a lot to re-establish the credibility of the franchise after 0-16. I'm not saying that Detroit will go 6-10, but 5-11 or 6-10 is not out of the realm of possibilities.
