Re: Top 5 WRs of all time?

Only going on guys I have seen play.

1. Jerry Rice. No one else is even close. I've even heard some people who know a lot more about the game than I, say he may be the greatest football player ever, not just the greatest WR.

2. James Lofton. People talk about him in the KGUN offense but often forget how dominant he was for Green Bay.

3. Steve Largent. The ultimate possesion receiver, who could also get behind the defense despite being size and speed challenged.

4. Tim Brown. Do it all athlete who produced for a long long period of time

5. My homer pick. Wes Chandler. Guy could do it all. Circus catches, deep speed, outstanding route runner. It's a homer pick, so everyone relax with this one.

Chandler was great for a period of time. Hell, almost anyone who played on the offensive side of the ball for the Air Coryell offense was great. If Lionel "Little Train" James could have a record season in that offense then just about anyone can. That's one of the things I point out when I defend my choice of Coryell being in the HOF. He made everyone on offense look spectacular.

I still picked Joiner over Chandler though because he did it for far longer and was more consistent. The guy also only missed 3 games in the last 15 years of his career!

I don't see how Randy Moss isn't 2 or 3.

If you listen to those guys talk however, they'll tell you in 81 in particular Wes was the guy that made the difference. They will also say Wes was the only guy alive who possibly could have replaced Jefferson and actually was better.

I feel you on the Joiner pick. Funny thing about him, he was originally drafted by Houston I believe as a defensive back.

Most gifted WR I have ever seen. If he played to his actual potential he'd easily be the greatest of all time.

I have a hard time with a list like this to put a guy on who won't go between the hashmarks, and simply refuses to do the little things.

Re: Top 5 WRs of all time?

The best receivers I have ever seen:

1. Jerry Rice
2. Tim Brown
3. Randy Moss
4. Marvin Harrison
5. Steve Smith (Homer)/Terrell Owens/James Lofton

Calvin Johnson will be up there. Besides Randy Moss, he is the best talent I have seen at the position. He arguably had the best year of any WR last year considering the talent around him.

Historically, though it has to be these five considering the dominance in their time:

1. Jerry Rice
2. Don Hutson
3. Rany Moss
4. Lance Alworth
5. Paul Warfield
