Top 5 WRs of all time?

I think we can all agree that Jerry Rice is the greatest to ever play the WR position but what about the next 4 guys? I think there are a ton of guys who can easily be called a top 5 WR in NFL history. I think we will get varying results based on the demographics of OS and those who know a lot about the history of the league as opposed to those who can't remember things before 2000.

Anyways here's my list in no order after Rice

Cris Carter
Charlie Joiner
Art Monk
Tim Brown (bit of an underrated guy but statistically he holds up well)

I agree with your choice of Jerry Rice. Best 5 receivers I've seen:

Jerry Rice
Randy Moss
Marvin Harrison
Terrell Owens
Michael Irvin

I have a hard time seeing why Monk would be on the list.

When Monk retired he had a lot of the WR records to his name. He can't help it if Rice broke every single record there is! Monk was also a key part of the Redskins offense especially in the first half of the '80s when they were known as the Smurfs. He was a big target and often had to take the inside routes where he would be crushed upon receiving the ball. He often times was a key figure when it came to 3rd and long situations.

I think he belongs on a top 5 list.

Re: Top 5 WRs of all time?

Narrowing a list to 5 was tough. Six I could have done easily enough. Although still leaving off some favorites. In no particular order.

1. Rice is a given.
2. Some one has to say Don Hutson, so let me be the first.
3. Moss, with some huge drawbacks to his game, makes plays no one else can.
4. This leaves two spots and I have three receivers who all played in the same era and played the position in three different styles. Cris Carter, Micheal Irvin and Sterling Sharpe. If the question was who had the better career it would be Carter and Irvin. But it was who was the better receiver, I think I will go with Sharpe and Carter.

Agreed, Hutson was an all timer. Just missed my list.
