Let's Grade the graders.

It's easy to grade a draft 5 years later. But let's see how the experts did grading the 2003 NFL draft.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfldraft/index

For instance. The only A+ grade given out was to the Ravens for this:

11010Terrell SuggsDEArizona State

211919Kyle BollerQBCalifornia

331377Musa SmithRBGeorgia

4412109Jarret JohnsonDTAlabama

5437134Ovie MughelliRBWake Forest

6511146Aubrayo FranklinDTTennessee

7538173Tony Pashos TIllinois

869182Gerome SappDBNotre Dame

979223Trent SmithTEOklahoma

10736250Mike Mabry CCentral Florida

Suggs is obviously a stud, Mughelli is one of the better blocking FB's (although not with BAL anymore), Johnson is a starter for BAL. Franklin is starting with SF, and Pashos is a starter for Jacksonville.

Obviously, the load of Fail that Boller and Smith were stand out a bit more. But 5 of those guys (Granted, only 2 with BAL anymore) are starters in the league.

Re: Let's Grade the graders.

They gave us a C- for:

1. Nick Barnett-LB, Oregon State
3. Kenny Peterson-DT, Ohio State
5. James Lee-T, Oregon State
6. Brennan Curtin-T, Notre Dame
7. Chris Johnson-CB, Louisville
7. DeAndrew Rubin-WR, South Florida
7. Carl Ford-WR, Toledo
7. Steve Josue-LB, Carson-Newman

Nick Barnett is the only one remaining from that Draft Class that is actually still IN the league. Only an expert could draft like that. Yea I see you, Mike Sherman

Re: Let's Grade the graders.

Bills got a C+ for this
1 - Willis McGahee
2- Chris Kelsay
3- Angelo Crowell
4- Terrance McGee
4- Sam Aiken
5- Ben Sobieski
6- Lauvele Sape
7-Mario Haggan

I think this was actually a pretty good draft. Crowell and McGee are difference makers defensively, Kelsay is a starter (though not a very good one), Willis is still pretty good, and I think Sobieski and Haggan are still in the league. Aiken is in New England I believe as one of the better special teamers in football and no idea on Lauvele Sape

Re: Let's Grade the graders.

Saints got a B-:
1. Johnathan Sullivan- Horrible and what makes it worse is that Haslett gave up 2 picks for him
2. Jon Stinchcomb- Starter and pretty good player
3. Cie Grant- Was injured every year and never played
4. Montrae Holland- Was a backup for a few years
5. Melvin Williams- No idea who this guy is
6. Kareem Kelly- Never played
7. Talman Gardner- Apparently played on special teams

D just because Jon Stinchcomb starts now

Why would you do this Jistic? Making me relive the memories of Rex Grossman and Michael Haynes.

But at least there was Briggs and Tillman.

Re: Let's Grade the graders.

I took a look at approximate value on the PFR site, here's how the teams shake out.
http://www.pro-football-reference.co...ence=any&type=

Going by approximate value thus far:
1. Bears (198)
Lance Briggs, Charles Tillman, Bobby Wade

2. Patriots (189)
Asante Samuel, Dan Koppen, Ty Warren, Eugene Wilson

3. Ravens (162)
Terrell Suggs, Jarret Johnson, Tony Pashos

4. Colts (153)
Dallas Clark, Cato June, Robert Mathis

5. Cards (150)
Anquan Boldin, Calvin Pace, Reggie Wells, Bryant Johnson, Gerald Hayes

5. Giants (150)
Osi Umenyiora, David Diehl, Kevin Walter

7. Bills (145)
Terrence McGee, Willis McGahee, Chris Kelsay

8. Cowboys (139)
Jason Witten, Terence Newman, Bradie James

8. Vikings (139)
Kevin Williams, EJ Henderson, Nate Burleson

10. Jaguars (136)
Rashean Mathis, Byron Leftwich, Vince Manuwai

That's just by total AV accrued by their draft choices, so the bears with their 12 draft picks obviously are going to do better than the Redskins with only three picks.
