One of the great debates: Rod Woodson or Deion Sanders?

Woodson also played at 3 different positions during his career. He was a CB, FS and Return Man and an All-Pro at all three. Rod was also one of only 2 player active players(at the time) selected for the NFL 75th Anniversary Team along with Jerry Rice. Not Deion.

Regardless, both were two of the greatest at the position.

Rod Woodson all the way, he was more versatile than Deion. But, if i needed a player for one season i would go with Deion, he was fun to watch. Also, i have always felt if Woodson would have acted like Deion off the field and stayed in the news all of the time he would be the most famous corner ever. Deion always help his cause with his fun actions.

If you have never seen Woodson play think of a slower Deion that would tackle....and not celebrate after every play.

rod woodson wasn't a lock-down man defender. he was certainly a very good man defender, but in pittsburgh, he benefited from playing in the zone scheme that features the steelers' vaunted blitzing attack that led to rushed decisions and him being able to maintain his area supremely.

coordinators didn't stay up at night and devise ways to avoid rod or keep their best wide receiver away from him. they had to figure out how to block the blitzes from weird angles and gaps, with rod sitting like a hawk in the zone on his side. it's a lot different than deion who didn't need to worry about schemes or anything, he just guarded his man and eliminated him completely.

it's kind of like comparing revis to asomugha. one literally follows the best wide receiver all over the field and makes sure he doesn't contribute to his team's success. the other has a specific area that he patrols like a guard dog and it's dangerous to enter that yard. there are similarities, but they're not the same type of animal. one eliminates, the other influences.

i'll take the eliminator.
